Choosing Joy in the Midst of Sorrow

How Can I Keep From Singing

I have so much to write. My heart is full. I won't be able to write much now. The room spins, I feel like throwing up and my limbs are shakey when I sit up...but I wanted to say something.

I had to go the ER last night and got home at 6 this a.m. We have lost our precious baby. God is still perfectly good. His nature, His Word, and Worship rang through my heart throughout this experience. He has been so kind and compassionate.

Three songs rang continuously through my mind yesterday and this a.m. "Blessed be your name" (above on my blog), "How Can I Keep from Singing" (above) and the gospel song "We've come this far by faith" (but I can't find a rendition of it that matches Rev. Harvey's to share - all the ones on youtube are too slow and mournful).

I'm still choosing joy!

  8. Dear De'Etta,
I am so sorry and am weeping with you right now. Your example in this situation ministers to me and to many others I'm sure. You have helped me learn much about joy and how we "choose" it no matter what the circumstances. The joy you are choosing is from God and He will sustain it in you day by day, moment by moment. Nothing can take away the joy that He gives. Even though your little one is no longer with you, the joy he/she brought to you and your family is precious and was a gift from our Heavenly Father that will remain in your memories forever. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

  34. Mike, De'Etta, and children, I'm so sorry for your family's loss. But how merciful God is to fill your heart and spirit with wonderful praise for Him, and to give you the obedience to always choose joy, even in the midst of your sorrow. How good He is to grant us precious days with our children. How comforting to know He has numbered and guides all our days, no matter how many or how few, and to know that He ushers even (especially!) the littlest ones into His presence with a warm hug and a big lap to snuggle into, to be forever in His loving care. Please know that my prayers continue for God to grant peace, comfort, healing, and yes...JOY...for you, dear De'Etta, and for your entire family.

Praying through tears, with all sympathy,

    Donna in WA (SHS)
