Yogurt

I was determined to make yogurt today. I wanted to time it so it could "set" overnight. I went to Crock Pot 365 and spent an hour reading recipes and comments. I was set...except I forgot to start it.....and now I've decided that I don't REALLY want to wake up at 1:30 a.m. to add starter....maybe tomorrow. If any of you have had success with this, please leave your tips. ::snort:: I've attempted to make yogurt in the oven, on top of the fridge etc.....years and years ago....and all I ever get is sour milk. Ah well, the younger kids need the failed yogurt experience to be properly developed members of the G family. ::snort::

  1. I finally gave in and purchased a yogurt maker. Sadly, however, it only makes a quart at a time. So you'd need to have several of them to keep up with a large family of yogurt eaters.

That said, I love my yogurt maker and usually make a batch a week. I've tried making yogurt in the oven...and sometimes it works and other times it doesn't. I've made a lot of sour milk. It seems to depend on the weather... LOL

  3. I bought a yogurt maker as well, DeEtta. It's a Donvier that makes 8 small cups (6-8 oz?). I think it was around $15 at Tuesday Mornings. Don't know if you have one of those near you. I am getting ready to purchase another set of cups from Amazon.com for about $14, so that I can make the yogurt (it really takes an entire day) when I'm down to 2-3 cups of the last batch. The yogurt does turn out good every time, though. I do NOT like store bought yogurt. It is too bitter. I like this.

  5. Linda - Yvonne - care to share your recipes? Do you make plain and add things in later - do either of you make a vanilla yogurt? That's what we like.
