Today was our weekly milk run. I bought 4 gal from United. Some members of my family are resistant to organic milk. ::snort::
We picked up 12 gal at Sams - a few gallons less than usual as Mike is gone.
Cashier - Big smile. "You must have a daycare."
Me - "No, I have a family."
Cashier - "Get a cow!"
We laughed hard.

LOL - Do you freeze some of it or do you go through that much in a week? Just curious. I used to do three gallons a week with my little family but I slowly cut the boys back so now they drink more water. ;-) We still do about two gallons a week though.
ReplyDeleteI expect our milk drinking going down...Stacia was on milk and used a LOT....because I couldn't nurse and after the formula she switched to being a voracious milk drinker.
ReplyDeleteI do push water. We don't do juice etc.
We were using 2 - 3 gal a day - so we are down to 12 from 15 - 21 gal. I even think we could go down to 10 - but maybe not...and I do make 1 or 2 batches of yogurt with this too.

BWHAA! How funny! BTW Kroger has milk for $2.59/gal this week and Aldi's is advertising $2.29/gallon!!!
ReplyDeleteWe dropped our grocery budget quite a bit when we went dairy free after dd's allergy popped up. They don't drink nearly the same amount of almond milk as they did cow's milk. Better for my budget! :)

ReplyDeleteThe funny thing is that I'd LOVE to get a cow. We drank raw milk from a dairy farmer when we lived in Beef Country.....and I miss it....but Mike's not willing to go uncertified/raw....if we move where I can find certified raw....or own my own cow...I'd be happy. LOL

Two of my kiddos are really small-for-age. Totally healthy, though :0) I've kept them on whole milk or 2%, hoping that would add calories to their diet.
But then I wonder if sometimes they're getting kind of 'full' on milk, and eating less food.
Thoughts?

ReplyDeleteI actually would love to have property and get a jersey and a couple milk goats, chickens and of course a horse but at present they would be a bit hard to cart around...;)
