I've had the blog 5 1/2 years without a problem. The past few weeks someone is sending spam to my comment section. Mostly links - which I've not checked, though some are for male enhancements and such - and sometimes long comments in some other language.
I thought there was a way to block one person - but can't find that. Does anyone know how you can do that?
The other option would be to put word verification on the blog. I hate those things, I can never get it right the first time, but it would stop spam.
I thought it would be easy to delete as they came in but now it's getting tedious. I think its one or two sending all of them.

Are you a member of THL (The Homeschool Lounge)? If so you can read a post that I made there about how you can block a certain IP address. That might help you. If you are not a member of THL no problem you can just visit my blog and use the contact me link to shoot me an email and I will email the info. It's easier to do that then post it all here.
ReplyDeleteSorry.... that's why I stick to approving the comments.....
ReplyDeleteThanks, SAHMinIL....I'm not on homeschool lounge but I'll visit your blog and get some help. LOL
ReplyDeleteCindy, there is no way I can keep up with moderating comments. I have to find another solution.
the word verification doesn't stop them anymore.
ReplyDeleteI have that and comment moderation and still I have been getting them.
De'Etta,
ReplyDeleteSpam comments are usually generated by a spider program. It's not an individual, it's a network type computer program. The only way to stop it is with word verification. I had this happen a year or so ago...
Hi, I didn't see an email from you this morning; so I just tried to send you an email. I had issues because it was labeling it as spam, but I think I got it through. (but just in case check your spam folder). The title of the email is "Blocking IP an address"
ReplyDeleteI know it takes a little bit, but it would solve the problem. I just leave my blogger screen up and refresh it every once in awhile and publish comments from there which is faster than publishing from the email notice they send because I can do them all in one click, basically.
ReplyDeleteAnd, I figure it's ok if it sometimes takes a day for comments to be approved.. it's my blog afterall (LOL).
Hope you find a solution that works for oyu.
It sounds like I can block the ISP and that is the way to go.....done and nothing more for me or my readers to worry about.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much SAHMinIL for sending me directions. I have no clue why *I* couldn't find them. LOL
You're welcome.
ReplyDeleteI just realized that all the comments have been on one post so for my quick fix until I have time to fix it further...I disabled comments on that post. LOL
ReplyDeleteIn thinking this through, I also realized that this time and the time before it was ALWAYS one post that got the repeated comments and it was ALWAYS an older post....so I also changed it so that comments on posts over a week have to be moderated. That should take care of the problem, I'm guessing.
