We've never had any art of value to move....and I wanted to hear from someone who had....I've asked each of the two packing crews that have come in how they'd do it, now I'll hover and make sure the 3rd crew does it right. IF you do it - YOU are liable. They take no responsibility. They will not even pay for the box. Hover and make sure they make a box and wrap it.
Oils should not be under glass- they need to breathe (from my art collecting grandfather years ago).
Tupperware? They will do spices except pepper. It throws off the drug dogs. Some will not do cinnamon. I always moved spices.
PS- the one piece of art that we left with mom years ago got moldy...never again:>) We did take a picture of one piece that my daughter loves and blew it up at Walmart. Now she has a copy in her house as well. Love those Chinese and English pieces!Janettehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10054888725603183006noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16366204.post-58512882674795170302009-05-17T13:51:00.000-08:002009-05-17T13:51:00.000-08:00Since you've already gotten opinions on framing/pa...Since you've already gotten opinions on framing/packing, I'll just toss out another suggestion for something else to consider. Is there anyway you could consider living with a photograph of the piece while you're in Japan? You have a nice camera so you could take a picture that would give a nice poster size quality. That could be easily rolled up and transported while the original resides safely somewhere else (at your mom's or the kids') until you return. Just a thought.Cynthiahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10712167060974491049noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16366204.post-23379457603663789072009-05-17T04:38:00.000-08:002009-05-17T04:38:00.000-08:00Maybe I should get this framed but I can't figure ...Maybe I should get this framed but I can't figure which type goes with it....and Joneile painted the sides of the canvas so that it can be unframed...which is a style now too.DeEtta @ Courageous Joyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06726346272268287588noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16366204.post-26127321912965096232009-05-17T04:14:00.000-08:002009-05-17T04:14:00.000-08:00We have a large framed Stiver print; it's gone on ...We have a large framed Stiver print; it's gone on every move with us.... typically the packers make a flat style box for artwork.
I just read the above comments; dh's aunt painted an oil scenery for us for a wedding gift. I did ask the packer how they would pack it and it seemed to be safe.....

but the heat and such would be an issue.... I would call an art store or museum to ask how to ship--or maybe take a nice photo to put on your computer or make a print of--and leave the original safe with family.Paulahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12409740378011990132noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16366204.post-67086263538143992872009-05-16T19:14:00.000-08:002009-05-16T19:14:00.000-08:00Just thinking about this more...maybe you could ta...Just thinking about this more...maybe you could take it to Hobby Lobby, have them FRAME the treasure and have THEM wrap and box the painting for you.Dejahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05490318819919659220noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16366204.post-5209591663668398252009-05-16T18:16:00.000-08:002009-05-16T18:16:00.000-08:00Regarding moving art...I'd go to the ups store or ...Regarding moving art...I'd go to the ups store or uhaul and get a special box for artwork. Bubble wrap the piece, then put it in the box and FRAGILE all over the box. I would not trust the packers to pack that treasure for me. FWIW, tears in oil paintings can be repaired by professional art restorers...I guess the movers would have to foot that bill ;-)Dejahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05490318819919659220noreply@blogger.com
