The day began with Jared at the local airport for his first Civil Air Patrol flight. 
We thought this one was funny....small town TX with a football field in the very center of town. 
Jared had a blast. He enjoyed getting to fly the plane. I, on the other hand, am always too worried about puking to think about flying. Mike is talking about getting current and flying again. There is a possibility he can join CAP and fly their planes at a discounted rate.

Cy and Jamin didn't have to work until 3:00, it was a rare family day at the pool. 
Mike and I ran out and bought "things" and had lunch at Outback. Bre called with her new cell phone number while we were eating. Nicholas got she and Krista verizon phones. I guess they have unlimited weekend and night minutes and can call any other verizon phone for free....so Mom and Dad - email them your phone number and I'm sure they'll send you theirs.
Mike worked on computers. Mike and Jared went running. Beth, one of my dear Sister Friends called. She, her dh, and youngest son (Jared's age?), are winding their way to see us. They are in Blithe, AZ tonight.....I can't tell you how exciting it is to have FRIENDS stop in and see you in a "new" location. None of our new homes really feel like "home" until family and friends stop and visit.
Jared flew the plane? As in he was in control of the plane? DIdn't he just join CAP? Wow, you must have been quite the nervous mom
ReplyDeleteAh, so that's what they are! We flew across Canada once and we could see these shapes in the middle of all the towns and thought they were running tracks. I remember thinking, 'Wow, I didn't know Canadians loved running so much!' But now I see they were football fields! Ours are rectangular.{g}

ReplyDeleteWe're looking forward to the day when Erik is old enough to join CAP and take flying lessons. I keep thinking, what a cool think to add to his HS transcript, "Flight School" and "Pilot's License". I'm thinking, too of joining CAP as an educator...they have some GREAT looking aerospace curriculum for K-12. Did I mention that my dh has a degree in aerospace...you can guess who would be doing the teaching LOL.

ReplyDeleteOur fields are rectangular too, but we tend to double up and put tracks around them for high school so they look round.

ReplyDeleteSounds like the girls have a plan similar to ours. We also have free nights/weekends and no minutes at all for incoming or outgoing calls to anyone in the Verizon network.
Wow! How exciting for him. I am not sure how much I would like flying in a little plane . . I would probably puke too :-)
ReplyDeleteflying - WELL - remember my dh is a flight instructor with a flight technology degree....SO one of our first dates was a "check ride" and I thought I would DIE...but I didn't because we were dating and I knew he loved planes far more than moi. ::snort:: Check rides involve stalling, several touch and goes (land and take off) and sharp banks....
ReplyDeleteKrista and Josiah took ground school at Elmendorf but didn't get flight hours for a license. CAP allows you to get both.....and in AK it was EVERY Saturday I love here that it is Thursday night....doesn't rob us of a family day.
All that to say that I've sort of gotten jaded about the dangers of flying - because my kids and Mike will point out the percentage of the statistics and it is far more dangerous on the road than in the skies...or so I've been told. LOL
OH and until you solo which is years away there is a qualified pilot in the seat right next to you who can grab his controls.....
Deja - we didn't know that about Doug. Mike is looking into joining because the flight time is WAY less than to buy it on the economy. The man said he'd have to pay an annual dues of $60 and then THEIR pilots would do Mike's check out flight and then he could use their planes for $60 an hour.....Guess what MIKE'S birthday, Christmas, father's day gifts will be?????
ReplyDeleteOh Lisa - it IS a great program. I hadn't realized how good. He researched it and wanted to do it. We agreed but had him wait until Mike was home from deployment.
ReplyDeleteThe aerospace info is worth high school credit - so he'll be doing that for the next few years. LOL
Landon joined CAP about 2 months ago! He has been talking about wanting to go to West Point, so we checked out the CAP program to provide some leadership experience for him. A girl in our homeschool group who just graduated really excelled even at the national level in CAP, and she was accepted to 4 of the 5 military academies! He is really enjoying it!
