Our base hosted an Air Show yesterday. The USAF Thunderbirds performed. Many re-enlisted or took the oath during the show. I like Air Shows. Jared worked at the CAP booth and at the Thunderbird tent yesterday. We milled around. Next year: We take MONEY so we can eat or buy something, we take CHAIRS so we can sit, we take SUNSCREEN.... It was a gorgeous day - perfect for an Air Show. How funny that I found myself tearing up when the Thunderbirds performed - combo of knowing those were young (most of them) pilots who could easily deploy, hearing the patriotic music.....
NO WHERE on earth are the differences between Mike and I more stark than at an air show. This is a FAMILY blog. Though it most often oozes estrogen, there are 6 men who live in our home.....so I must post these photos from our family day.
Mike's Air Show Photos (Pretty much without commentary as I don't know what is what)
Staged WW2 Bombing exhibition

B25 Mitchell bomber (same kind used by Jimmy Doolittle)

Check out Zander's awe...

Thunderbirds
4 were flying and the 5th zipped through the middle

Cool!

De'Etta's Air Show Photos

YES - she SLEPT through the Thunderbirds - now THAT is cold. I am at least interested.

Painted on the side of a USAF military fighter type plane

In Mike's defense - he DID take some children photos. In De'Etta's defense - she DID know that Mike would take lots of airplane photos, and that they would be better with the Nikon than the little Cannon. This was our 3rd "family outing" this month with the younger 5 - we're adjusting to life as it is.
Update: Mike added captions for the planes.

What fabulous pictures. Some of those Thunderbird photos are awesomely frightening. I absolutely love the last photo and the dedication I see in our military. Thank you Mike and your family for the sacrifices you make.
ReplyDeleteExcellent photos!
ReplyDeleteBoth of your perspectives gave a well rounded post.
Great photos from both perspectives.
ReplyDeleteI totally love airshows, especially when the Thunderbirds fly...all that power...too awesome.
Brian often works airshows. He enjoys talking to the people especially kids.
Next time we go to the airshow, we will: 1. Bring a stroller whose wheels won't break off when we take it out of the van and have to CARRY the baby the whole time. 2. Get earplugs for the baby. 3. Pack a cooler to eat while we WAIT for the traffic to clear out instead of sitting in the van with hot, hungry kids. 4. Have my husband hold the baby during the Thunderbirds show so I can have some cool pictures to put on MY blog. Looks like you and yours had some fun. Hope y'all aren't too burnt.
ReplyDeleteHI:
ReplyDeleteLove air shows and espically the T-Birds. Keep enjoy life with the kids you have because ALL to soon you are left with none at home and who knows what might happen and who will be where when it is time to do things. :):)

That is so cool! I am a sucker for airplanes. I love them. My dad has been associated with airplanes since the 1960's.
ReplyDeleteGREAT photos, we will definitely miss not seeing them fly at the Air Force Academy graduation this year. It's been a five year tradition (I think we missed once due to rain, but they performed an hour or so later, flying over our house quite a bit!)
ReplyDeleteThey always choke me up too. I feel patriotism in an EMOTIONAL way when I see them fly, liberty, freedom, sacrifice become visual for me. (Does that make sense? lol)
Sorry, DeEtta, but in Landon's book, Mike's pics win hands down. We got to see an air show once at Scott AFB which is in IL where my parents live. They also did a WWII bombing recreation, but we can't remember which battle it was anymore. This was in 9/03, I think. ???
ReplyDeleteOooh, I grew up going to air shows like this. Fantastic memories.
ReplyDeleteWe saw them from afar. I'm jealous of Mike's photos. Mine are on my blog and not too bad but, I missed the planes crossing upside down from different directions. That was cool! Audrey was able to go in Friday afternoon and Saturday morning with a VIP. We were cleaning the yard and taking the truck to the Dump! WHooo Hoooo!
ReplyDeleteBut, my boys get awfully cranky and whinny and then it's no fun for anybody.
Thanks for sharing.
