With EIGHT children I've told them "B says Buh - and has a Big Belly"....and they've bought it. When they've confused "b" and "d".....I've simply reminded them that b has a belly.
"Which one has the B elly - remember it says buh".
No one has EVER questioned this.
Mini me is learning her alphabet. She got stuck. I said, "Which one has a buh buh belly?"
She responded by pointing to "b," "This one has a buh buh belly." Just as I was about to congratulate her she continued, "But, Mom, this one (pointing to the "d" has a buh buh butt."
I was stunned! I later told our 25 yo daughter, Bre, and she told me she'd always wondered about that when I shared the trick. What in the world?

Actually I am surprised they didn't just say the d was standing in a different direction with it's belly. :-)
ReplyDeleteHilarious!
ReplyDeleteMaybe you could point out that D has a d - d - d - derriere!
Stacia was just brave enough to actually say it! :)
ReplyDeleteI love it when they surprise us with things like that. :)
ReplyDeleteLOL - Great idea Vicky.
ReplyDeleteJen - well you have a point but since the point was the way the letters stand they seemed to buy it easily enough.
Yep - that's what Bre said too, Linda.
I love the surprises too!
my trick was always: bed
ReplyDeleteyou take the letters and write it in a basic drawing....
that is too cute!! Faith has issues with b and d. I am *so* going to tell her the belly thing and see if works (and to see if she says anything else. ha!)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the buh-buh-belly laugh! :)
ReplyDeleteI thought the same thing - the d is just standing backwards. I like the "butt" idea from Stacia :)
ReplyDeleteRenee said it first...
ReplyDeletebed
write it out and it looks like a bed with a headboard and footboard.
Julie
