Stacia's New Goal

This is not a self-directed goal. I've dreamed of family bike rides for YEARS. There was a bit of time when we actually pulled it off....meaning all the older ones could ride bikes and we had a bike trailer and seat for the youngest 3.....We sold our trailer when we moved, thinking Stacia would be riding a bike anytime.....

Alas, Stacia does NOT like falling, or ouches of ANY sort....she feels this bike thing is highly overrated and has been happily STILL riding the faithful old Tryke.  She's had quite a growth spurt this year....and will be 6 in August....it seems time for her to learn to ride her bike...but she has been too scared to try even with training wheels.

Last night Arielle and I went out for a ride. Stacia saw merit in being able to go out with us for "girl time".  Today, Arielle and I decided she needs to be riding her bike by her birthday in August.

She was less than convinced but gave it a try....and oh what a lot of drama we had......but she did get a bit more comfortable with the training wheels...if Arielle and I run along side.....

The moment she realized neither Arielle nor I were holding on to the bike....

Here she learns how to use the brakes...a mixed blessing, that!

    We have a bike riding goal this summer too. In my case it's my oldest. 16 year old Jessica (with ASD). She has made so many new strides lately, I thought it was time to tackle bike riding again. I, too, dream of family bike rides. But, alas, it is going to take a lot more patience on our part. ASD and balancing/biking don't always go hand in hand.She just was not ready. We will take it step by step using some website tips I found on teaching autistic kids to ride. In the mean time, we rent a tandem bike when we do family bike rides.

    I/m still scared to start riding bikes again. How nuts..... use to ride all the time. Even a little afraid to tackle a motercycle. Can you believe that. Bet if I ever tried again it would come flooding back. Maybe this summer. :):):) Good going Stacia. :):) love/prayers - 2G's t.

    Today, she insisted we take the training wheels off - but near as we can tell she isn't really making any progress....don't tell HER. LOL

    Our son was really afraid to ride his bike. He finally asked to learn when he was eight because a number of new friends were riding. He learned quickly. (He also did not read until he was seven.)
    End result- graduated in Physics from WPoint and now flies helicopters. Go figure!
