Photobucket A Tale of Two Brothers (or Five)

Mowing the lawn is a right of passage in our home. I'm not sure how it became that way. It may have been a sneaky way for Mike to get free yard work done? ::snort:: I believe Josiah was 10 - 12 when he first began to mow. Jamin was probably the same. Jared INSISTS he was mowing before we moved from San Antonio, "when they'd let me". He was 8 when we moved. That seems young to me....but I think the key words are "when they'd let me" and he was closely supervised.

In recent years Josiah has moved on to things such as: fixing the grain mill, fixing lawn mowers, changing oil, repairing tires, plumbing....Jared has taken over our yard and window work.

I was suprised Friday morning to see Josiah outside mowing the yard.

Jared rushed out, "That's MY job!"

Josiah replied, "I've got it."

And I realized what he was doing. He was mowing the yard one last time as a dependent in our home. We let him. It was one of those "ahhhh" Mommy moments. I'm proud of the man he's become; and sad to have him grow up all at the same time.

The mowing told me that he is also working through what it means to move out. We're proud of you Josiah. When are you have having Dad and I over for dinner? ::snort::

Look at what gentlemen you are raising there! I hope you have enough lawn work (and other maintenance jobs) for them all. :)

Josiah: We too are so proud of you! You have no idea how happy we are to see you so well adjusted and serving the Lord!

Hope we someday are in the same town as you and you get to cook for us also. After this Christmas it will become harder for us to get to see you who are now on your own. :) boo!hoo! but with pride!

AHHH..... that's sweet. BTW, our son has been mowing the lawn since I think he was 6 years old, with supervision of course. He's been doing it all by himself for at least 3 years... I was just thinking the other day that it's about time for the little one to start mowing now that he turned 5! Another year or so...

One more thing. I told dh we really need some more kids because after our youngest starts mowing then when know it's only a matter of time until the job will come back to *us*!

You know he may be right then about his age. He was 8 when we left San Antonio and he INSISTS he mowed while there from the time he was 7 or 8. It sure seems young to me. LOL

Awww that's sad, and good but why do they have to grow up? I know they must!
