Amusing Sights

Remember, amusing could be something funny - could be something that makes us smile. We LOVE how the Japanese go to such great lengths to make construction and inconvenience cheerful or hidden. I'll have to get more photos of a typical construction site.

These bunnies surprised and delighted us today.

Japan Day - Part 2

Dancers

Folk Singing - Sort of Japanese Opera style

LOVE these drums and have lots more clips

More dancers

We found this giant Uncle Sam outside of Japan Days fun....

Jared pointed out to us that HE was CHOSEN by Uncle Sam.....future in politics. I suspect, son, you've been chosen by one far greater than Uncle Sam.

Japan Day - Part 1

The highlight of the day, of course, was hearing from Mike that he is on the East coast. We may well not hear from him for another week or so....Skype is precious. The cameras worked and we could all enjoy the mug shots.

Other than that TWO fun things today.....Japanese garden shop and dreams..... I'll blog that later..... and ....JAPAN DAY!  This is an amazingly fun day on the base. There were 600+ Japanese vendors. They demonstarted the tea ceremony, all sorts of arts, musical insturments, dance, singing, kite making, kimono dressing, and on and on....all for free. Great day!   Here are a "few photos" and really - it is just a few. Mike check out the album online.
It's always fun to have them decide how to translate our names. On the left is my name in Katakana... Dee (top several marks) E - ta Then we got to try....
A-le-tsu wasn't totally happy with his attempts and has been practicing all afternoon. A new obsession. He may well learn katakana instead of reading while Mike is gone. ::snort::

Stacia's always a hit - but her name gave problems.....THEN she kept reaching for the brush with her left hand. They kept saying, "We paint with our right hand." She kept switching it to her left when they gave it to her. I guess she really IS LEFT HANDED. ::snort:: They finally moved everything around and tried to help her from the left.

Have you ever seen sand art like THIS? Gorgeous!

All these are made from PRESSED FLOWERS!

I would love a screen like this, but KNOW it wouldn't survive our moving.

Gorgeous!

Tea Ceremony

Love this lady's obi

Love the music from a Shamisen

Japanese "human video" we think.

Love the artwork....

Made me cry

Look what showed up in my picasa web album!!! How dare they go to the PWOC Hotel without me. ::snort::

They look happy! I sure love these men. Miss them too. I've done well not to cry, really, but this made me tear up. You all make me so proud to be "yours".  God is so GOOD to have allowed the AF to route Mike through TX.

This showed up too....the Asian branch of the family (a very good place to be). Mike snapped a photo before he left.
