Photobucket Day 1 of our Vacation

First, Mike has dubbed this communication central for the next few weeks. Note the EHD, laptop (with wifi tonight), camera and phone (minus charger - ARGH).

Jamin and Josiah will be driving out to CO tomorrow.....he will be bringing a few things we forgot: phone charger, the dog....

Early this a.m. (4:30) I began hauling food and clothes out the trailer.

A package from Mom and Dad arrived! You are so thoughtful. Thanks. Here's Stacia in her "Princess Dress" - because it has rhinestones on the yoke. ::snort::

We'll love the toys, magazines, towels etc on the trip. Thanks again.

First stop on our wild trip - Dumas, TX

long shot
Second stop - Lubbock, TX (is it trending DOWN?)
Lubbuck
We also got lunch at Lubbock. We'd been texting the girls and were alarmed that they were NOT out of WA as of 10:00, 11:00.....Bre said Krista had an "errand that was taking some time". Krista is always up early and ready to go...we wondered....It turns out that she signed the papers this a.m. for a new job. She'll not be going back to Master's Commission this year. She's been recommended for a couple of ministry opportunities and is still praying about the Doulous. Regardless of what she does the job will be handy and allow her to save $. For this year the plan is to finish up her ministry course in Spokane, work, and pray about which door to walk through.

From Lubbock, TX to Clayton, NM there is not a lot to see. A friend loaned us his Garmin GPS and we amused ourselves by trying to trip it up. ::snort:: (The following photos were taken in a jumpy vehicle).

We saw lots of corn....

The littles really enjoyed getting out of the van. We've unpacked, called Jamin to remind him to bring the phone charger...checked on the address of the place outside of Westcliffe where we will be for the next week.....
Photobucket
The rest of the evenings we'll play games, or read, or go for a walk...... and if I take photos I may pop in and upload them as I may not have another chance for a few days. (Do check back as some posts are set to post automatically).

Tomorrow the older kids should all join us at a campground outside of Grape Creek in the Wet Mountain Valley in the Sangre de Cristo Mountain Range. There are 36 acres of grass lawns, flowering shrubs, spectacular wild flowers and majestic high mountain views for your enjoyment. Excellent trout fishing right in the park! Mike fondly remembers many hikes as a child and youth in these mountains....and I've attempted it a time or two with him....so if you don't hear from us it's because there are no connections in the area...and we'll be slipping and sliding up and down mountains.

I will be journaling....a trip diary of sorts. Long time readers know that at its heart this blog is a ministry to my family. I want to get our life down while I can still remember....so that will continue.

So glad your first day went well.

I love the picture of Stacia with the doll, she looks so grown up!

I for one just love your gas pumps across America posts. I would miss them terribly.

Look forward to future installments of the G Family travels as they come.

Well what a fun day! I saw your two boys checking out at Wal-Mart this morning as I entered with my herd to do school supply shopping. So if they say anything about strange lady with 4 unruly kids staring at them it was me. It's funny. It was like seeing celebrities. I read about them and see pictures and know things about their lives.
I also have some info for Jamin regarding a local Christian publisher. We have guy at our church who has recently written a children's book. I purchased it and it has a publisher listed here. I'll try to find the book, Audrey has it, and get the info e-mailed to you.
Have fun! Hope you get service where you're going.

And the advantage of your journalling is that WE get to go on the trip with you!

Stacia looks so cute in that outfit.

What fun!

We leave Sat. for 9 days exploring the Denali Hwy. campgrounds. So, the task you requested may not get done until after school starts 20 Aug. Would that be OK? (Boys start 20th and dd starts the 26th.)

Oh, gh bought a BIG (new to us)aluminum canoe y'all my use next time you're here if you like.

Darshia- I MISS ALASKA!!! Ok, that's out of my system.

Yes, the task can wait until after the 20th - Mike didn't get the POA and so we won't be able to mail you things until we get home.

Thanks!

Have a great time. I love our canoe - I'm not so sure about the kayak - but it WAS easy to load into the trailer. LOL

Shame you're not heading this way...we're at 3.65 at one station...head north, trend down, lol!

Okay, WHEN did Stacia cease being a baby and turn into a little girl? She looks entirely too grown up in that picture (although it is completely adorable).

Have a wonderfully fun time and enjoy having all your little chickadees together again!

I paid $3.61 yesterday on post.... You would think TX would be cheaper than AL

Sis: Goodness, what a surprise to see how much like an almost 3 yr. old girl Stacia looks! She is an absolute doll! Her hair style is neat. Glad she likes the dress I know those other on sale dresses just were not even considered once I saw this one. G'Ma/G'Pa like to spoil our G'Kids.

I'm with the littles in liking to get OUT of the cars.

Trout! We haven't had a good taste of Rainbow or Brook Trout for far to many years... enjoy!

love/prayers Mom T

You passed us on that lonely stretch of road between Lubbock and Clayton...we're right off I-27. Did you see us waving?

I love Colorado, in fact, we just got back from our RV trip there a few weeks ago. Have a wonderful trip!

Shelley - the owners of the park we stayed at outside of Westcliffe also own a park in Clayton. LOL I'd never heard of it before. We'll look for you on our way back through. LOL I THINK we are going back the same way - I really never know until Mike starts driving. ::snort::

My first thought when I saw that pic of Stacia was also how big she looks! Sigh.

I always enjoy your gas price photos. I'm not sure why, because I do think it's a rather odd thing to like. :)
Maybe because it's just SUCH a regular part of life?
