Easy "Beef" Stroganoff

I got the idea of this from "Whole Foods for the Whole Family" but I changed it so much (added 5 ingredients) that I'm not sure you could say it is from there any longer. ::snort::

1 lb lean ground beef or ground turkey
1 onion, chopped
1/4 C butter
2 T flour
1/4 C Ketchup
1 C beef broth
1/2 tsp sea salt
Dash of pepper
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
mushrooms
1 C plain yogurt (or sour cream)
Pasta or rice

Brown meat with onion, mushrooms and butter (my organic turkey is so lean that there is no need to drain...if using hamburger or something cook, drain and then add butter and flour). Sprinkle flour in and stir. Add ketchup, broth, salt, garlic (I used that amount twice and then dumped), pepper (used lots of dashes) and Worcestershire sauce (also gave a few extra splashes of this).Simmer until done. Stir in yogurt just before serving. Sever over pasta or rice.

I noticed you use sea salt instead of regular salt. Why?

this is even easier although I'm not sure how you would cook it to be healthy/organic:

1 can cream mushroom soup
1 can cream celery soup
1 envelope onion soup mix
1 lb stew meat (cut up)

Throw all in the crockpot and let it cook all day on low.
About an hour before dinner (give or take) add 8 oz of sliced mushrooms. About 30 min prior to serving, add 8oz sour cream.

Serve over rice or egg noodles.

and don't tell me you don't have a crockpot... every busy homeschooling mom needs one....

QB - sea salt is natural....as in evaportated from an ocean and has ONE ingredient "sea salt". The other salt has more things in it. I try to go with the shortest list of ingredients in anything I use.

I am not totally happy with my sea salt because it does have an anti-caking agent in it...but I have to have iodized because of my thyroid condition. I'm trying to find a sea salt without the anti-caking WITH the iodine.

It's just in keeping with my philosophy that I "don't spend real money on fake food". :::snort:::

My tomatoes have ONE ingredient "organic tomatoes". LOL

I never set out to be organic, I simply found it easier to live FG if we use a lot of organic.

Renee - your's does look easier. LOL BUT for me to use it I would have to make white sauce to use in place of the soup....not hard but about the same amount of work...so if I want a crock pot meal this would be the way to go. I'd also have to dig out the tip someone gave me about a sub for onion soup mix....but I've been meaning to do that anyway. It looks very simple.

My freezer beef master mix works well for this too.....I can throw it in the crock pot and add yogurt right before we serve it.
