Advent Countdowns....

We have many different things we do to countdown until Christmas. In the past we've had a countdown candle. Take a candle, make 25 marks on it. Burn a mark each day. This is very visual for young kids. You can do the same with chains etc.

I made this years ago.

This year we added a "real Advent Calendar" to our line up for the first time. I couldn't quite figure out how little pieces of cheap candy would be fun...and we didn't do well with the Lego and Playmobile calendars.

Becki, left a comment that helped me figure this out for my family. Mike and Jamin took over the job of writing daily clues. Those are in the box. They will (hopefully) lead us to the day's gift. This was a bit dangerous as THEY are tricky.

I found little gifts at the store and around home. I really can't say what all I bought or the young ones will know. I put them into ziploc baggies and they are ready for Mike or Jamin to hide each day.

This is a really neat idea. I may have to remember this for next year. My boys LOVE treasure hunts. I do have one daily activity planned at some point this month for a scavenger hunt, but a daily one? Oh, the joy of it all! Have fun!

Ah - the frustration of it all - I can NEVER figure out the clues...but he kids are pretty good at it...of course the two BEST made up the clues this year. LOL

I'm happy to see you used the idea!

Thanks, Becki - it helped. LOL There were no way 9 little gifts were fitting in those boxes and NO way I was purchasing 9 little calendars. LOL
