Clothing is Optional?

Clothing is apparently optional in Eugene, OR.

I hesitated to mention this abnormality, but I've witnessed it myself and it has been witnessed several times by other family members. I'm quite used to seeing topless women and men in g-strings in AFRICA...but it's a bit alarming to see on your way to buy groceries in the good ole' US of A.

I realize I've been living in the South and in Alaska...and both are more Conservative in morals and such...but honestly....when did topless become acceptable in mainstream OR?

As Jared said, after witnessing one "lady" on a bike, "Where I come from it's socially unacceptable to walk around in such attire." ::snort::

Maybe the loss of 13 out of 14 suitcases won't pose too much of a hardship if we stay in OR. No photos to accompany this post - yet. ::snort::

Yes, I've accepted our fate and have gone grocery shopping. We really are NOT going to make it in time to fly with Mike....and we need to get back into some sort of routine. BTW, milk is MUCH cheaper here - $1.99 a gal.

I was going to mention this to you, but the opportunity never quite arose.

Our worship pastor has a friend who is a pastor in Eugene. His (his being the worship pastor's wife) told me that it's legal to go topless in Eugene!

Apparently several years ago two men were walking down the road with a woman. The men were topless so the woman removed her shirt as well. She was arrested for indecent exposure and then turned around and sued the city.

No doubt for discrimination or something like that.

Sigh. The pastor in Eugene said things are quite liberal and "lost" there.

Frankly, I didn't believe anyone would really take the city up on that freedom. Yikes!

Ooookay then. So glad that is not acceptable here.

Milk is even cheaper here--$1.69 a gallon at Costco.

HI:

Eugene is Eugene and rather nutsQ

Springfield is a bit better. :):) Oh what a river can do in what is and what isn't acceptable.

Don't go thru the University area any more than you have to. :):) They really are nuts there.

Why would any lady want to expose themselves that way.

My mom would say, "That's a woman, not a lady."

But there are some great Navigator folks in Eugene, working on the campus there.

Glad you can at least get milk cheap... at least ONE good thing! (I can't imagine what it will cost in Japan.)

De'Etta,
Hugs to you and the children and prayers as you navigate through this mess. I am praying that God be glorified in ways we could never imagine or may know this side of heaven. As far as Oregon dress code, all I can say is oh, my!! Reminds me of a very cute email "Out of the mouths of babes" and one of the recountings is:
I was driving with my three young children one warm summer evening when a woman in the convertible ahead of us stood up and waved. She was stark naked! As I was reeling from the shock, I heard my five-year-old shout from the back seat, "Mom! That lady isn't wearing a seat belt!"
I wish all of your children could "see" it that way. sigh.
Blessings to you and yours,

Lis in NY from SHS

HI:

Can't remember all the details but there was a great testimony going around about someone at the UO gettig saved during finals and it was/is quite a transformation.

PTL for all the various groups who work on college campuses and PTL for those who find the Lord as a result.
