She is doing Math U See. Sitting in with us on a lot of our science and history/lit....but the bulk of what we're focusing on with her is a program called Learn Your Letters, Learn to Serve. This is perfect for us. Each week focus' on a letter. She learns to write it, there's a verse, a whole host of hands on things to do and we think of a way to serve someone each week too. This has taken us two weeks - so in the future, we'll probably not do all the activities. They learn a little song to learn the letters, I'll add the Sing, Spell, Read, and Write songs, and games and maybe a workbook if we need it....I think she'll zip right along in this program and then we'll begin the I See Sam series. I love that it's GENTLE and encouraging...a far cry from the pre 3 and pre 4 program we pushed BreAnne into. ::sigh:: I've relaxed quite a bit in 22 years of homeschooling.
Today she bAked Apple cAke to tAke to Akikosan.
Stacia waited outside for Akikosan - and I didn't realize it had started to rain. ::snort:: She was VERY excited...and Akikosan was excited. I wish I'd caught the mutual bowing.
If the weather cooperates we'll finish our A weeks by going on an ADventure to Towada Horse Park....if not, I'll be looking for an inside adventure real quick. LOL
I've also discovered she is totally and completely left handed.....

How sweet! I am wondering if Carys is left handed as well. She still switches back and forth and 4-1/2. All of the rest of us are right handed. How in the world will I teach a leftie how to write?!!!
Linda - Josiah (21) is left-handed and I really sort of gave up. No matter what I did, we couldn't seem to get it....but he's figured it out. I'm working with Stacia...but it's totally apparent she isn't going to write with her right, she reaches for everything with her left. When I set things on her right side she reaches with her left to get them anyway. LOL
Yay for Stacia! I like it.

Did I tell you I'm not using SSRW with Nathan? After all these years I've FINALLY figured out what it was about the program that made reading/spelling hard for 2 of our kids.. and that's how they don't teach all the sounds a letter makes right from the start. For example, /a/ has 3 sounds but you don't know that in SSRW until later in the program and some of our kids have had a hard time with that. I'm teaching ALL the sounds the letters make right from the start now using All About Spelling. I'll still use the SSRW reading books and workbook, I'm just not using the audio portion.... cause a,a,a,a, apple is what sticks in their minds instead of a, A, aw.... which is how I'm teaching them now...
That only took me 16 years to figure out (LOL).. well actually 15 as I figured it out and made the switch last year.
LOL - I go back and forth on teaching them all at once or the most common first....I think it depends on your child to some degree. I've had some where too much info at once made it impossible to remember any (and SSRW worked well for them) and others who wanted it all at once (we're using 100 Easy Lessons and I see Sam and some of the songs for Zander).
