Day 3 - Fish Camp 22

 Household Day's total - 22
Group Day's Total 90
Trip Total - 192
Household total - 83
Group Allowance - 315 (We will NOT catch this many!)

Day 3 of fish camp 22 - "more of the same."

Process fish in the morning, kids' treasure from Bachan and Papa's treasure chest, catch fish in the afternoon, common meal, clean fish...

Josiah and Carrie had friends down today. It was a slower day. There were less people in our group AND less fish were caught...it was the best day for friends to have joined to learn. Less fish? Today's total is 90 fish, there WERE less nets in the water, the fishing fleet have been out all weekend, that is still a LOT of fish. LOL

Luke, Krista and Maria left for Anchorage early in the morning. Carrie, Josiah and Liv, along with their friends and Carrie's parents left this evening.

Tomorrow, CoRielle, Alex, Stacia and Michael will explore the local area and pack up camp. I am told there will be no more fishing.  Everyone has the fish the want for the year.

I realize I am reporting from HERE and not THERE - but I believe the BEST part for me this year is being able to see relationships develop. I've known it was happening, but the photos illustrate it well. This is the 3rd year Luke, Carrie and Liv have gone dip-netting with us. Last year KrUke had just married and CyRi weren't married. This is the 2nd year Allie has been with us.  Watching the family grow and gel once again is a blessing.... watching the cousins grow from one 8-month-old baby to two boys and a sweet girl helping, working and playing together is a blessing.  All feeling comfortable enough to invite others - magic. I may have been too caught up in the movement, the fish slime, if I were there to have noticed the relationships.

The freezer is slowly filling back up.

The boys' surprises today are "puzzle balls."

Livie got a bracelet...

No rain today, lots more sun. I hear sunburns happened - regardless of prep.

One highlight I note from the photos is Danny got to join the fishermen today. That's him on Cory's back. I remember Benny's first foray into the tide....The orange there is Arielle. Note she is out further....

But, it's DANNY AND CORY that catch the fish! And, just like that, another fisherman is born.

Once again, thanks to Carrie and Arielle for today's photos...and for stepping in with meals on the trip (along with Krista).  Today's photo dump.

Nap time at fish camp?

Sweet Little Alaskan

The "fishing" portion of the trip is over. 192 fresh-caught, wild, Alaskan salmon are in various freezers...it's a good feeling with rising meat prices and supply chain disruptions. Getting away with everyone is the highlight of our year...all are returning home with fond memories and stories to tell for another year.

Here at home...Allie, Grandpa and I went to church and out to lunch. Allie felt impressed to attend service this Sunday. We had a youth mission team up all week, and they had the service today.  Jamin and Jared went down to fish camp for one day, Saturday. At the end of the day, Allie rode back to Eagle River with them. Nolan met them there and brought her the rest of the way home. Grandpa woke up and said he felt like he'd had a run in with an elephant...that will happen when you have a close encounter with a wood floor. Regardless of the elephant, he made it to church and was happy to have been able to do so. He's feeling better on the new med regime.

Meanwhile....back at home!

My plans to catch up the blog aren't panning out...but we did have a relaxing day. Nolan worked on college. Grandpa slept in, then spent the day with his newspaper and car magazines. I DID try to nap when he did.  I finished a book Spiritual Whitespace and spent some time contemplating its message and which parts I may want to apply as well as which parts I may not wholeheartedly agree with at this point.

There was a little tea and scone cafe in Misawa - Cafe Live Forever - which made WONDERFUL, small, round, and tall scones. I loved going in and getting a scone set...scones and a pot of tea. I made some scones today...they did NOT get incredibly tall...but they are closer to the right size... LOL

Yes, I am having a day of deeply missing Japan.

Via google

Millie has been WILD all day. I know she misses Stacia, and Allie is her second choice...she puts up with the rest of us. We've taken her outside to run fast and wild several times today. I ran her until she was calm enough to put a leash on and go for a quick walk.

This is Millie stalking the neighbor's cat which loves to hang out in our yard...may have something to do with chickens.

Grandpa fell down this evening but insists he is fine. I was grateful Nolan was home to help get him up.

Day 2 - FISH CAMP 22

Household Day's total - 46
Group Day's Total 102
Trip Total - 160
Household total - 61
Group Allowance - 315 (We will NOT catch this many!)

There you go - I'll put the fish totals at the tops of the posts....for those who want just the facts. Keep in mind this is SUBSISTENCE fishing and is only for Alaskan citizens. These are the totals set by the state Fish and Game.  Our goal is NOT the total 315...but with supply chain issues and the cost of everything rising...this will be incredibly helpful - AND it's HEALTHY.

The fire is greatly appreciated on 37* mornings. Danny is not sure what he thinks about the whole "tent thing" afterall....but Arielle thought ahead and brought plenty of blueberry muffins.

Everything is better with blueberry muffins.

It's SO MUCH warmer in the sleeping bag!

Nothing better than camping breakfast to get a day going!
Carrey and the kids

Oh, yeah! Danny is definitely waking up! The day is looking brighter.

The girls pulled out the treats for the kids from Bachan and Papa's Treasure chest... LOL Actually these were slated for Friday so maybe they got them Friday night....On second look I think they got last nights and today's at the same time. LOL

Benny's love language has to be gifts...at least giving and quite possibly receiving.

Kids of my heart...

The morning was spent filleting and sealing last night's cleaned catch.  They are now resting in the freezer. What a great way to begin a fishing day!
Nice fish! Krista, Cory, Alex

Cy, Luke, Cory, Alex...

Armed with paper towels and bags this crew packages what the others have filleted.

Danny moved from Arielle's back to overseeing their sealer.

Liv enjoying the animals around the "Ranch".

Uncle Luke and Livvie

I began to see text traffic that they were being turned away at the parking as they tried to get to the beach for today's tide. In the end they parked on a bluff and walked down....and then Arielle and Maria drove around until they could find parking, while the others started fishing.  Without further ado here is a photo dump of an Alaska Day on the Beach.

Jared and Jamin (being buried alive) came down to fish for the day. They must have done some fishing as I hear they are satisfied with their catch and heading home. Allie will come home with them as well.
Uncles are such fun!

Such a cheery shore crew! LOL

Late breaking photos from Arielle (she was making the meal tonight and didn't get to photos earlier).

She shared Danny's first impressions of the beach made her laugh. "He keep 'oohing' at the boats going by and was NOT impressed with fish slime! Benny loved bonking again and the added fun of beach play with Livie and Danny. " Yes, 5 years ago Benny was the only baby with us...it is fun to have more on the beach.

EW! Fish slime!

Jamin, Jared and Allie are on their way home this evening. Luke, Krista, Maria, Cy, Carrie and her folks will be leaving tomorrow.  It will be down to CoRielle and our crew....I think Izaak and his friend are coming in on Monday.  The bulk of the catch is over....

*I KNOW the photos are wonky. It's got to be something about iphone and my samsung. When Maria sends photos they are clear. When Arielle and Carrie send a lot of photos they arrive as thumbnails that don't blow up. As I catch photos from FB, I'll switch them out with these. LOL
