*NIGHT TREE by Eve Bunting*

I read this book today to all the children - Stacia through Josiah. I like this little book. It's one that is in our "Christmas crate" and packed away each year on New Years.

The night before Christmas this family loads a box into the back of their truck and drives out to the forest. They decorate a tree with popcorn strings, apples, tangerines and such for the animals. They spread a blanket, drink hot chocolate and admire their handiwork.

I've meant to do this every year with the children. TX doesn't have a lot of pines and in AK it was TOO cold at the end of December to be sitting in snow banks admiring trees!!!

The children and I want to decorate a tree this year....we are undecided if it will be one in our front yard or a mesquite in the fields where the deer and critters roam at the end of our block. The point really is to feed the animals and I doubt many will venture down OUR street with it's Las Vegas like light displays. ::snort::

Sadly, we haven't even gotten around to starting our advent reading this year. Maybe I should just read a book a night from our Christmas pile... we'll see. I planned to assess tomorrow whether or not we could actually get all of the Advent reading done if we do 2 a night instead of one... if we can still get all the reading in then I may still go for the Advent reader..... for being so far ahead in so many areas this year, I'm not sure why I've been behind on getting started on this... I suppose because I keep waiting for us to all be at home and awake at the same time (LOL)

Night Tree sounds cute. I think my kids would enjoy that one since after Christmas we put our tree outside and throw popcorn and other goodies all over it for the birds and whatever critters come around. I need to get to the library soon and see if they'll ILL this one for me.

You're managing to do lots of fun Christmas things from the sounds of it.

Cindy....could you be feeling behind in this area because you ARE so far ahead in other areas? Just a different focus? That whole "something slides off the plate when you add something else" thing again????

We got this from the library for years....I bet they can do it for you.
