ARRRRRGGGHHH

I've not been driving at night since last Tuesday (1 Feb). We went out to the boys' favorite haunt in honor of Nolan and Josiah. Went to come home...NO LIGHTS!!!!! Finally, I figured out that if I put them on BRIGHT I had some headlights...but still no lights on the gauges. And no headlights unless they are on bright. Could this be a fuse? Where would I buy fuses? How will I know what I need? Where is the fuse box on the van - oh YEAH I figured that out...by my feet.

Did I SAY I wanted to take care of myself? I don't mind having a husband who handles all these things for me. ::snort:: OK - tomorrow....after speech, co-op, and class, I will learn how to make lights work on a van.....because tomorrow night I'm supposed to be driving again. THOUGH I got to thinking that a flashlight would be fine to illuminate things. Shoot....if I have to limp along with the grain mill....why not limp along with the van lights too? ::snort::

Yes, dear.....I APPRECIATE YOU MORE THAN EVER!!!!!

An auto parts store will have fuses. They'll come out and see what you need for you. They may even put it in for ya. But I'm sure you can figure that out.

I know where the fuses are in the van, but have no idea what to do with them LOL. Jordan knows though, so I am all set if there is a problem while Doug is on the road. Or my FIL, he would take pity on me LOL. I'd never even think to call my dad. Sad, eh?

You are doing so good! I am amazed at the things you can do.

De'Etta, talked to Brian...he said it could be a fuse. You know where your box is? He said you should have spare fuses in the box and a fuse puller, they look like plastic tweezers. Also, on the cover of the fuse box, there will be a description of what fuses go to what and the amperage that they need. If you need to buy fuses, you can get them at lots of places, any auto parts place, even WalMart

Hope you have success and get your lights back soon.

I know that my dashboard lights go off if I accidentally scroll my overhead light switch too far down. KWIM? But that shouldn't be affecting your headlights......

Hopefully, the boys are learning all sorts of practical household stuff too, during this time! Great preparation for them, DeEtta!

Oh they ARE Dorothy....they took care of the burning smell in the attic, the dishwasher that continues to clog up, the tires that needed replacing...LOL

Debbie, thank Brian for the clear directions. I'll tackle it this afternoon.

My battery went dead yesterday while I was in town so I had to go from door to door (businesses) looking for someone who had jumper cables. Found some, jumped the YUKON, and drove right to the battery store. They checked the battery for me and found that it was a little loose. They tigthened it and away I went with no problems afterwards.

All of that to say. I've done similar things with other car issues because, while my dh isn't away like yours is away, mine is away a lot and I have to handle all of these types of thigns on my own... have for the last 10 years because he's just gone too much and when he's home I don't want him to have a whole list of things that need to be done or fixed.

Got sidetracked again.. sorry... meant to say that yes, like Kelly said, most auto parts stores will come out, figure out what you need, and usually even install without a fee. You'll have to go to a parts store to get the fuses anyway if you don't already have one so maybe you can start there?

Sis: no comment on the light problem because it has all been said.

I hate driving at night because my vision has gotten crazy at night. ??

I'm with you in that I sure do realize now how much Dad did. I find myself real busy just keeping up with the normal stuff he always did. :):) Frustrates him that he can't do a lot of the stuff.

De'Etta I think you have done an awesome job holding down the fort. You should be so proud of yourself.
