My Magic Fruit Shake

(commonly called smoothies by the rest of the world)

This is how I get 6 servings of produce in most mornings..... 300 - 350 calories. Who's counting? Evidently, me these days! LOL I add at least a 2 C salad at both lunch an dinner and have 10 servings in for the day.

Six serving variety:
1 C of fresh squeezed OJ
1 banana
1 nectarine or peach
3/4 C pineapple
3/4 C blueberries

Five serving variety: 1/2 C OJ instead of 1 C - thick - almost like ice cream

Darshia, I promised to tell you what I thought after I'd used it for a bit of time. That is what prompted this entry. I have not used my real blender since we all learned how to use this. This is MUCH less mess. We can each make our smoothies (shakes on Sunday night) to our tastes. It all blends in the cup....

Drawbacks...it doesn't blend as smooth as the Bosch. Editor's note 2012 - it broke before a year of useage.  I now skip the OJ - add water and spinach to make a puree, a scoop of muscle milk protein mix and super seed.....adds veggie, protein and all sorts of fiber.

Thank you for the feedback.

I'm waiting for our blender to blend it's last. I've learned it works best if there is no ice. I'm now using frozen fruit for the "cold" element I like.

Motor is still funky...sometimes normal...or hot smelling...or revving too fast!

I'm the only one who uses the blender, so I'm thinking the bullet blender may be the way to go for me.

Need to consult gh. Current blender was his Mom's.

De'Etta--I'm so glad to hear how you like the Magic Bullet. Where did you get it? It sounds like it would be perfect for individual smoothies. Do you squeeze your own oj? You are amazing in how you feed your family so healthy (healthfully? healthily??). Thanks for sharing recipes. It really helps to get a picture of things.

That sounds so yummy! I am going to start making smoothies. I am starting to do more things besides juice, but still want to be mostly raw.

I am looking forward to getting a Bosch. Ahhh, I know the Lord will provide for the Bosch and NutriMill. I printed out pictures and taped them to the wall in the kitchen where I will keep these appliances. Until then, I'll order fresh flour from the co-op and freeze it and make my breaad by hand.

You made my kid's day by putting that on your blog. She's been wanting a Magic Bullet for years. In fact, I think she added it to her birthday list earlier in the week!

So, it's worth getting?

DeEtta,
Here is some advice about making a smoother smoothie (lol an oxymoron)About it being Pulpy, etc, add some yogurt to your smoothie. Here is what I do:
1/2 water (or milk or juice)
1/2 c vanilla yogurt
1/2 c plain yogurt
1/2 c blueberries
1/2 c strawberries

Mix and serve.

Enjoy!

Beth, I make smoothies with yogurt for the kids...but for me I try to use only fruit....gotta get those produce servings in. LOL

Kathy,

Yes, I squeeze the OJ by hand...it's not impressive...really. Slice the orange...tell the kids to watch your Gov of CA imitation....there you have it. LOL

I DO think the Magic Bullet is great for individual smoothies.

Mom bought it for me for Christmas - she'd have to tell you where she got it.

Hmmm....Stephanie....sounds like a good birthday gift to ME...you could use it too. LOL

Kelly,

I think of you often...usually when I'm trying to get that last salad of the day in....LOL

I do eat a lot of raw. I LOVE the all fruit smoothie for breakfast...but lately I've been adding bread/p butter or an egg or something in the a.m. so I have the smoothie for my first mini-meal or vice versa. LOL
