ARGH - Spending Alert
Since determining to actually COOK for my family again, I keep thinking of all our favorite crock pot recipes. The freezer and the crock pot: "a busy mom's best friend".
My crock pot finally broke after 23+ years of use. It broke months ago and I've been contemplating what I want to replace it with. There are many more options now. I thought I'd swing by Walmart and buy a new one. However, I read Emily's blog and remembered how much I LOVE our nesco roaster. I have the 18 qt one. I can use it as an oven with oven temps, or a slow cooker....maybe I should get one of these instead.
The problem now is WHAT SIZE and they aren't sold HERE in town...I had a menu planned around my crock pot before I realized I don't have a crock pot. LOL
The 18 qt is great for big crowds, holidays, bulk cooking, days when my oven breaks.... but I need a smaller one for "normal" days too. The Rival 6 qt was getting a bit tight for dinners...but then again our family seems to be in a shrinking mode. I think the 12 qt may be to big. What do you think?

10-12 qt would be good for you guys. We have a 5 qt and it is too tight for us. I also have the 18 qt. I love my cookbook from Sam's called Fix it and forget about it. It is all about crockpot recipes.

Sorry for the deleted comment but I got an Error message. Anyways,
I wanted to let you know that I think the 12 qt would be PERFECT for your family. The 6qt might be a little too small for making main dishes. I think you would love it for side dishes, desserts or small entree dishes! Also, don't forget that you can use you own baking dish - you just set it on the rack.
I have the 6, 12 and 18 qt and I love all three of them.
I vote 12 quart. You could always freeze the leftovers.lol
I have an 18 qt. roaster and use it a lot in the summer when I don't want to heat the kitchen. I also use it as an extra oven, to make large amounts of soup, etc.
Our 6 qt. crock pot is tight and I only have 3, but they are teen boys! Remember, your boys are going to be eating more. Or are mine the only ones that eat huge quantities of food?
I think a 10 or 12 qt. would be perfect for every day. But that 18 qt. is really nice for entertaining, holidays, hospitality, etc.
LOL - OK - I think you've made up my mind. I have the 18 qt and knew it was to big to say "cook a roast and taters" in...and the 6 qt has been tight....I've been using it mostly for side dishes the past several years. The 12 qt looks huge....but maybe it would work better. I need to go check out the site again. I'm quite sure they don't sell these HERE.
