Random Thoughts on Japan

  • There are 123 Dairy Queen's in Japan according to Jared's Google search. I assume there will be one "near" us.

  • It's been colder HERE the last 2 - 3 days than it has been in Misawa - go figure!

  • The average speed driven in Tokyo is 17 mph (can you say traffic jam?) according to the documentary we watched.

{Sorry if our fascination with Japan bores our readers...it's big news around here. It's rather easy to motivate any learning that I can tie in to Japan these days. ::snort::}

I met with my friend Windy today and they are sooooooo excited about going to Misawa in September. She loves foreign cultures so much she's even considering living offbase. She very adventurous! LOL!

She's also glad she'll be meeting you!

Yokota is about 23 miles from Camp Zama (both near Tokyo) -- can't remember the KM difference -- but it was about a 1.5 - 2 hour drive between those two installations. Distance is usually measured in time, not actual mileage/km. Fun!

AND DoDDS is very open to homeschoolers taking "extra" classes at each grade level, including clubs and sports and host nation. I hope there are good administrators in place should y'all be interested in using that.

David and Daniel are begging to stay home in the fall, and surprisingly, we have my inlaws blessing and actually they suggested it. Green light! I'm interested in your lapbook ideas and other stuff for boys, 7 and 10.

Ditto here, Dorothy. You'll remember I grew up in foreign countries. We are very excited...sad to leave children so far away...but excited.

We would love to live off base...so far we keep hearing that it is COLD off base and that its very difficult to have pets. Price of utilities, size and pets are what we are considering now. LOL Well - and some bases require Mike to live on base. Haven't heard about this one.

Funny that Windy has been planning for this and we'll arrive two months ahead of them....we'll be there to greet them. I need to dig up her email addy - I have about 3 to dig up.

BTW having a college friend who has lived in Tokyo for nearly 20 years is very helpful. ::snort::

Are you at WILD, Mel?

Wow - it sounds like God may be moving to having the two younger ones home....I'm amazed at how many great resources are now available.

Speaking of speed limits, we were suprised that on Kauai we never found a speed limit sign that was faster than 50 mph... when we came home 75 seemed way too fast after a couple of weeks of barely going 50...35 most of the time.

I'm actually not a Trainer this year nor am I able to attend their big weekend. Too many family obligations with my own kids and now my dad in this season -- plus Andy's away. But it's been fun helping them get the publicity pieces together.

Yes, I've already been online this morning and on my OneNote, jotting down some ideas for fall. Good stuff!
