Decorating conundrums

I have a video of the closet to show you....but my computer says it's running low on memory each time I try to load it. We have a fantastically HUGE walk in closet as well as a normal closet in the master bedroom suite. I'd like to reclaim the space in the suite.  I loved Jen's room and I think I may make my own spot in the closet. ::snort::

My other decorating conundrum is this...what would you do with this spot if you didn't have art work...and I don't want to buy any to live in a home for two years..... Would you leave it as is with nothing, put something else up there???? This is high in the ceiling of the living/dining room. I assume it's for art? As it has lights shining on it.....

So glad that you move is going well, For your emply space, I think that if you had any kind of material or large scaves or something like this, it would fill the space. Maybe once your furtiture comes you can decide what colors would fit, and even buy something at Joanne's. Nancy in Tokyo

Have a large canvas made of a family photo. Then all your kids will be with you. Blessing on your new home, Terry

We once lived in quarters where there was an extra closet and many of us used it as an office and it was much smaller than the one you have. Is there an outlet? If not, could you run an extension cord?
As far as those open spots on the wall, I agree I would not buy extra art for 2 yrs. If they are high up (above eye level) and would require a ladder to hang anything, I would just leave them as is.

We bought fabric and stretched it like Chinese scrolls for one place. Now we own some huge pieces---too bad we are not closer. Otherwise- just leave it. Check out Hawaiifabricmart. They have some amazing prints that could be used as dresses after you move (I use their fabric for curtains). http://www.fmart.com

I agree on the office. It could be a nice place for an interior chapel as well. I'd paint one wall a different color, bring in a Hawaiian fan(small- loads of air- Target) and string in some electricity.
Hey, wait! It could be a movie room--- floor seating and movie on a wall :)

Love the ideas for the closet....I'm leaning to an interior home chapel....a prayer closet...a secret place.... there is an outlet in there and a ceiling light.

I hadn't considered an office...that may be an option as well....I planned to put a desk in a little alcove in the "master suite." Maybe I could post the video of the master suite - love the space but we could have had bigger bedrooms for the kids or another room with a smaller "suite". Ah well - appears to be the new trend?

I like all the suggestions for the art spots.....keep em coming. I should like this on FB as well.

Shhh....I really miss Japan today.

Like the idea of the prayer closet. We have done offices in the big closets at some of our homes. Just so much extra space.
For the walls you could leave them or you may find you have knick knacks from Japan that could be displayed there, like your nativity or the Kdolls. Also the idea of the family picture on a canvas, often they have groupon coupons for the big canvas pictures and you could do one like of all of you in traditional Japanese clothing or another one of all of you together.

Sis: Your friends have great ideas. For me a pray/bible study and/or personal office space would be the deal.......

As to the wall spots... Did you say there were lights in them..... you might want to use see-thru material or tissue paper of some kind to just make accents of color. Goodness if these oil paintings of moms, Liberia artists, Filipino artists etc that Dad/I have stored away just because we have no place to put them were something you like we could let you have them. :):) I bet you will not want any of the paintings we have stored. :):)

Looking forward to visiting you. love/[prayers = mom

Those beautiful pictures of your family in Japanese dress would be perfect on a canvas. On one side, do the one with the females and the other, the males.

I started following you just before you found housing in Japan. This journey is just as interesting. Hope you are settled quickly.

I love the prayer closet idea. Ever since your Alaskan prayer closet, I have loved that idea!

Still thinking this one through....as we live here I realize I really like being downstairs with all the windows before anyone else is up....not sure I WANT to be alone in the closet....so maybe I'll make it an office space.....

Wilma - how fun that you've followed us through two moves. ::grin::
