Typical Tuesday

  • PWOC - love my gals! What a blessing to be able to share with each other! A blessing western Christians are tempted to take for granted!
  • THUNDER - wow!
  • "I prayed we would all survive," - Zander's thought on the rare thunder storm. I guess he worries about natural weather patterns more than I thought.
  • Fun to see Michael at work after PWOC - but he looks BEAT. Hope he doesn't stay a full day today.
  • Back to base to take Nolan to drama and Jared to work.
  • He stayed a full day. ::grin::
  • Spent 2 hours in the library - messed up the time I was due at the club. ::blush::
  • PWOC Book club. Fun to enjoy dinner and discuss "Made to Crave" by Lysa Terkeurst.
  • Jared is nearly done with Tapestry of Grace.
  • Spent the better part of another hour reading in the car (love the back-lit ipad!) until it was time to bring Jared home from work at 9:05 p.m.
  • Found rising dough - up to bake muffins and then BED.

Blueberry Coffee Cake (Sue Gregg)

I went to make this today and couldn't find the recipe on the blog. I do try to get our favorites on the blog for ease of moving. This is originally a "Sue Gregg Blender recipe" and called for wheat berries...I always use flour and add some sort of "flavor" vanilla or almond....

Ingredients
1/3 C yogurt + 1/4 C warm water
1/4 C melted butter (or oil of choice)
1/3 C honey
1 1/2 C whole wheat flour
2 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 Tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp sea slat
1 tsp cinnamon
dash of vanilla/almond (not in original)
2 eggs
1 C fresh or frozen blueberries

Topping
2 T melted butter
1/3 C Rapadura
1/2 C uncooked rolled oats
1/2 C chopped walnuts (or skip or pecans)

Preheat oven to 325* (30 - 40 min....my oven needs to be hotter)

Mix baking powder, baking soda, seat salt and cinnamon and set aside.

Mix topping and set aside.

Mix yogurt, water together. Add honey, butter and flour. Add eggs and set aside soda etc.  Pour batter into an 8x8 or 9x9 greased and floured pan.

Spread blueberries over all. To keep them from sinking coat them in flour first.

Distribute topping evenly with fingers....

Bake, slice and eat!

Bake until toothpick comes out clean. Always better warm....216 calories for 1/12th of cake.

Cross Training Lock In

Friday night was the end of Spring Break and the first-ever (that we know of) Misawa PYOC lock in. Big thanks to Kim and her crew for planning and executing this fun night for our youth.  Even better Kim posted photos and a video on the Misawa PYOC Facebook page so parents like us can see the fun (and blog the stories).  In the words of the kids:

Jared: "Nolan was a dancing fool!"

Arielle: "I only slept 30 min so the middle school boys wouldn't draw on me!"

Nolan: "Going to bed."

Lock in started with a game of ultimate Frisbee. The boys won! "Only because the boys were taller and have huge arms," retorts Arielle.

We moved inside and enjoyed some team competitions. Jared was still at work at this point. We (Arielle, Nolan, Cade, Ally, Emily, Mackenzie) were the Awesome Dinosaurs so we could roar in their faces when we run. (We didn't win - excuses edited).  Arielle claims she didn't enjoy chocolate up her nose...but we all think she's simply addicted...snorting chocolate.

The leaders volunteered the boys on each team for the next game....we put cups of ice in their shirts to see who was strongest. The game lasted for 10 minutes - Nolan was the winner.

Our student band is AWESOME and we had some awesome-student-led worship.....

Then we just hung out....Jared is the guy on the right....

Nolan was the dancing fool - but we found several photos of Jared dancing to the rhythm of his own drummer.

De back: What an magnificent show of leadership. PMOC showed up in the a.m. to cook breakfast for the youth. What a sight must have met them as they walked in to a chapel full of strung out, youth who had been up all night. LOL

Conclusion: It was fun. We should do it next year.....Jared, Arielle and Nolan

Farewell Bowling

We celebrated Michael's last day of  convalescent leave by attending chapel. ::grin::

One of our neighbor's got surprise orders and found out they were moving in three weeks. They live directly across from us and their daughters have been a lot of fun.  They invited the neighborhood kids and a few of their other friends to go bowling today.  The kids had a blast.....

We'll end the evening with an episode of Waltons and head to bed so we can get a good start on the new week!
