Spring Fever

Really, Stacia? Shorts? Sweatshirt?  Believe it or not she INSISTED she was warm and I finally MADE her go back inside to get some pants and a real coat. The big piles of snow are melting, but Nolan and Stacia enjoyed a few tame slides down this "snow bump." I'm telling everyone to be careful, we are very close to travel dates and I dont' want anyone sick or hurt. ::grin::

We enjoyed a walk over to the pond this afternoon. Still frozen......

Does anyone local know WHY there may have been groups, large groups, of chanting men and women out in the farm lands today? Really loud...we could hear them in the house....and they continued until about 7:30 p.m. Loudspeakers, chanting, loud speaking....

We enjoyed a beautiful sunset today....and we really wonder if spring may be here.....regardless of all those warning me that the snow will be on the ground until May......

Off to read a chapter of good ole' Nate Saint and then have a piece of Daddy Chocolate.  This has been a long day and I'm ready for bed.

Wow, DeEtta, what a stunning photograph of the sun through the trees.

Those trees are so emblematically Japanese, aren't they?

I wonder if the chanting is an attempt to banish winter? It's not even the vernal equinox yet, is it?

Spring...Thought you'd like to know that we are getting around 4 INCHES of SNOW today here in San Angelo! SAISD even closed! And I was about to start cleaning out the gardens and get ready to plant!

Ha! Stacia may have been born in TX, but the Lord started knitting her in your womb in AK, didn't He? Her shorts in Winter/Spring seem pretty "normal" to me and what's seen here!

That sun set shot is beautiful.

Re: Chanting...yesterday the my oldest's 6th grade class went outside to shout outloud for a celebration of some kind that's supposed to send the snow away and bring on the spring (he said he refused to say the words, but pretended to participate - he wants more winter)...I'll see if I can't find out the name...I wonder if your neighbors were doing something similar.

Stacia is just adorable. My oldest son has spent most of the winter 'carrying' his jacket because he is too warm to put it on. I insist he still brings it just in case he gets cold - but he never seems to. I think he is at that age where coats suddenly become uncool! When did keeping warm become 'uncool'?

Lol, OK, the ritual you witnessed in the field was probably not Hoodie Hoo Day. It was apparently founded in the 1980's by Tom and Ruth Roy. It's a day to scare away winter by going outside at high noon (Northern Hemispere: Feb 20, Southern Hemishpere: Aug 22)waving your hands above your head and yelling, "Hoodie-Hoo!"

LOL - Not Hoodie Hoo. They were out again yesterday a.m. but I've not seen them since...and we had AMAZING SPRING WEATHER yesterday.

I'll have to look for that one! I'm reading "Jungle Pilot" by Russell T. Hitt (with epilogue by his son, Stephen). I got that one free from the Mission Aviation Foundation (maf.org). We learned about Nate Saint during VBS last summer - our theme was "God's Flight School" and all week, we touched on different aspects of flight (from the Wright Brothers, to Superman, to Nate Saint, lol). Got me intrigued...I also want to see Tip of The Spear, the movie about him. Thanks for the title!

I'm hoping spring comes soon. It's been a long winter and I'm really feeling it now that we didn't get away to anywhere warm this winter.
