Wednesday Update....but I think today is Thursday here...but I need to remember to call home on Wed and Thurs YOUR time....

Rain this a.m. LOTS of rain, not drizzly rain, a respectable rain. It's still enough of a novelty to us, that we love it. Renee B, I should have bought rain boots at the shoe store...and that rain slicker at the Bunny Store...and an umbrella. ::snort::

Here's an update from yesterday.

Renee B, a chaplain's wife here, met me at the Misawa Inn and took Nolan and I out birthday shopping for Stacia. What fun! It was so nice to see a bit of what the town has to offer, and not to have to worry about WHERE we were going. As I've said, there are no street signs here, so when Mike and I go out we are still quite lost, fairly often.

"Is THAT the yellow building where we turn?"

"I don't know, was there a red and white pole across the street?" ::snort::

Renee took me to a big shoe store, a children's store, a 100yen Sushi spot, and the 100 yen store! I'll write more, as I have photos loaded. It was fun!

We also stopped and saw Connie. Connie, is another new chaplain's wife. I think they snatched the last big house in Misawa. It's a gorgeous house. I will not envy. Though I DO envy her GREAT Internet connection. LOL

Mike confirms that our Exception Package is now at the Wing Level.

The kids and I went out to the North Side of base and played in the lake and on the beach. We ran in to Connie and her kids at the beach. That was a lot of fun and a great way for the kids to get to know each other...flinging seaweed at each other. ::snort::

We scouted out the Towers on the North Side. We were told there is only one officer's Tower....and they are all Pet Towers...but we'll make do if they offer us one...otherwise I haven't a clue what we'll do. I guess FIGHT to be given a single 4 bdr 4 plex. I call the agents off base daily and there is simply nothing - as in NOTHING - at this point. Hmmmm....we may still be waiting in November and go ahead and take that house that is being built. Come to think of it in November, we'd need an exception to live off base as the new policy is you must live on base. I haven't a clue how we'd swing the rent payment though. LOL

The front desk stopped me this a.m. to remind me we are supposed to be out on Friday. I told them we've been extended for a month....I sure pray we have a home by the end of THAT month. ::snort:: Jared is starting to look for boxes. LOL

Mike worked late last night, I got the kids in bed and planned to upload photos and blog....but the connections weren't working...so I read.

First Grocery Trip

We went through our first off base grocery store during the Hachinohe tour last Friday. I noted right away that we were at a loss to figure out quite a few of the packages. LOL

These grocery carts are cute....little baskets that you set on a frame. I usually need 2 - 3 carts at home.....I'm thinking a REAL trip is going to take a lot of baskets....

Something we recognized....look at the new flavors...Almond and Choco Banana....

White Chocolate Kit Kat - a hit.

Not a clue what GUTS is for, but we passed...

These were the cheapest eggs, but again we weren't quite sure what they were and so passed....for Friday. LOL

Ah - ears of corn....That would be about $1.38 each - and I thought 3/$1.00 was too much to pay! ::snort::

MEN'S POCKY?

Look at all the variety of Pretz....

We also ordered our first lunch...solo...off base....the picture menus are helpful, but we still weren't sure what we were getting. AFTER we ate, we saw another family had found pizza in the grocery store....next time...maybe we'll try that route for the kids. ::snort::

We DID find out that the fruit is considered a "gift".....and the farmers hand select the best to display and sell...which is why it costs so much. Renee (B - not to be confused with G) told me today when we were out that the farmer's have the less than perfect produce at the farmer's market......so I'll be trying the farmer's market soon. Jared keeps wondering if we couldn't ask them for the "American Style Produce". ::snort::
