JOSIAH

Stacia is trying and trying to call you on the phone. She told me that you WERE on the phone and that you said you loved her and were coming to take her to the ball.....so we'll be trying to call you when the time lines up...didn't think 3 a.m. would be a good choice.

Exciting Day

A very exciting day indeed.

I did laundry.

I shared a good laugh with the Japanese lady who does housekeeping at the TLF. I'm not sure we understood each other, but we communicated. She had knocked on one door and I told her all we needed were towels. That I wanted the kids to keep doing their own cleaning. We said the whole domo arigato thing to each other, smiled and bowed....and she knocked on the next door...to find me again. ::snort::

Mike talked with housing some more. There is a shortage of 4plex units for FGO(Majors - Col) and THAT is probably more the reason we haven't been offered a home than the size of our family. I think the thought is to put us in the Towers (which are only at 40% occupancy) AND save a FGO unit for another FGO. They DID ask if we'd consider a "modified unit" in the Towers on the North Side. We would LOVE to be on the North Side. Most want to stay on main base. We agreed. She is now going to "expedite" the "exception letter". I would think anytime you have a family sitting in TLF you'd expidite.... ::snort:: We are 99% sure we won't be getting a double 4 plex....but maybe we'll be getting a double apartment. While this is not ideal, it is the best option at this point.

I called EVERY Japanese Rental Agent that we are allowed to rent from. ONE had a 2 bedroom house, the rest had none and one had a 4 bdr NICE sounding home that is being built....available in November but OVER our BAH.....so we are praying now for an apartment. Ironic. We began by hoping for a large house off base, then hoping for a modified 4 plex, then a 4 plex and now we are hoping for a modified apartment. Always, we've prayed for God to set us where HE knows we need to be...and so we watch and try to rest.

I had a pity party after calling the last Rental Agent. I did cry. I felt that everything has been hard on this PCS and this ONE thing should have fallen into place.

I called a new friend and she was wonderful. Thanks so much for talking to me. She even suggested taking me out shopping to find Stacia's birthday gifts.

I can't seem to reach Josiah or Krista...but enjoyed a talk with Jamin yesterday and BreAnne today.

Mike brought us to the library....

A good day!

House Hunting

Yes, we have been looking for houses off base. We aren't sure what will happen with our waiver and we must live SOMEWHERE....

These are HUGE houses (and not available) but note how close they are to each other.
Photobucket

This house was available...but is the same size as base housing....and as you can tell you have houses all around you....4 sides....The tank you see is for Kerosene for the heaters etc.

Though there is this fun view across the way.....

We have been told there are HUGE houses off base, but we've not found them. The ones we see are comparable to base housing, with less green yard.
I think grass is a luxury here. Most places have very little space around them. That space is either dirt/concrete...or if they DO something with it they plant flowers/trees/gardens. I'm amazed at the gardens in every nook and cranny.....
If we find something bigger than on base, we'll take it. I think I'd love to have corn growing up to my front door, so that doesn't bother me much. ::snort:: At this point, as I've mentioned, the houses we've seen off base are smaller than what base housing won't offer us.
Our plan is for Mike to track down the waiver and begin pushing. If they deny the waiver (which they've denied another waiver last week), then we'll push to at least be shown base housing. We still want to live on North Side.... Mike hopes to break away from normal chapel duty to finish inprocessing this week - to include some time for house hunting in the day time. ::snort::

Stacia's Adventure

Stacia's favorite part of the Hachinohe tour was the MALL.

She has been talking about needing pink sandals, "because mine were stolen," since she saw these.

Though she was really taken with the red wooden shoes.....

And she said, "This will WORK for the ball!" when she saw this. ::snort::

Veedol Memorial /Mori Park

{I'm really not sure about that park name, but I think that is what we saw as we left. Note, this is the first spot we've been too with no western toilets available. ::snort::}

Mike noted a "Veedol Memorial" on the map, I'd picked up. We headed in the general direction.
This tower was fun to climb and awarded us with great views. The Miss Veedol Replica is the little red plane to the right. I'll write more about this when we visit the museum, I'm sure...but you can read the basic facts here.
