*The Ultimate Lap Book by Tammy Duby and Cyndy Regeling*

My friend, Carleen, in AK recommended this book to me. She kept telling me about lap books and I told her I'd ordered the Dinah Zike book. She KNEW Tammy Duby from living in MD and had never heard of the Zike books (though she is quoted quite often in this book). We were talking with the coordinator of our charter school one day and Carleen said, "Order that book for De'Etta". ::snort:: She told me I would love it - and she was right. I simply had to move and find the time to begin enjoying relaxed homeschooling once again...you know as opposed to "homeschooling under the gun". ::snort::

From amazon.com "A wonderful guide for introducing your child to the exciting world of book-making. Not only does it tap into your child's creativity, but helps him own the information in the book, preserve his artistry, practice writing skills, and turn words into friends. "

This book talks about folds, talks about how to make various types of books...folder books, stick books, accordion books, hard cover books...and then gives blueprints from several projects the author's children have completed.

I REALLY enjoyed this book. It has given me the confidence to try a few of these ideas on my own - rather than spending my time searching for the perfect lap book guide....though I do a bit of that too. LOL

Oh - and I'm slow but Tammy Duby is "Tobin's mom" of Tobins Lab. I see on other sites that she's "patented" the term lap book.

Now, I really must get moving to go to speech and pick up produce...more later...on this cold, wintery TX day....::snort::

Hey.. I just noticed that we are FOUR degrees warmer than you at this very moment! That must be some kind of record?

Now I see your temp has risen a BUNCH since this a.m. while ours has only risen about 7 degrees (LOL)! Still thinking how funny it was that we were warmer than you early this a.m.

Hey,
I have to shout out KUDOS for this book! I really love it and it helps for newbies. Also I have her HOW TO DVD on Lapbooking and HIGHLY recommend it. I am a total visual learner and it helped fit it all together.

Sounds like a great book. I have seen them mentioned as the pioneers of lapbooking. Guess we know who to thank or throw a massive pile of paper scraps at, depending on the day.

Beth - I may have to check out the DVD....I'm also very visual.

Cindy - it warmed up into the 50's today but was COLD this a.m. I think it's supposed to get fairly cold again tonight. 19* is cold around here.
