Things that make me go....Hmmmmm!!!

I spent a bit of time this a.m. searching cooks.com for new veggie recipes.....specifically broccoli, cauliflower and asparagus. Why are so many veggie recipes laden with ingredients like "cream of soups", cheese whiz, bacon bits???????? Sort of seems to cancel out the benefits of eating the veggie in the first place....maybe not...

Maybe the littles would eat veggies better if they were swimming in a lake of cheese???? Stacia eats steamed broccoli...hmmmm....

Sounds like you need to search vegan sites!

My kids all eat their veggies with just a little bit of butter - no seasoning, no cheese. But I guess my kids are weird.....

Long ago I began serving steamed broccoli with mustard (to dip in). Everyone loved it! and I have had broccoli lovers ever since. Guess we're weird too....

De'Etta - a friend loaned me her healthy muffin book. Smart Muffins or something like that. Have you heard of it? Looks wonderful, full of healthy ingredients. I was curious about one with cauliflower in it. I like the idea of sneaking veggies in to muffins. Do you know if you can substitute honey for molassas? Dh about fainted when he saw the price of pure molassas (even at Costco where it's fairly cheap) and refused to let me buy any more. Since he rarely puts his foot down on grocery items, I am loathe to sneak off and buy some. :)

We do Olive Oil and seasoned salt on our steamed or stir-fry veggies. Of course, dh (my butter addict) always goes on to add a pad of butter. I try to tell him I've already seasoned it but to no avail. I'm praying for him. :)

Oh, in my other comment, I must have been writing late at night because I meant MAPLE SYRUP and not molassas. Sorry. Costco sells a nice jug of maple syrup but it's around $20. Dh thinks that's outrageous when you can buy two containers of Mrs. Butterworth for $5. Sigh. Again, I'm trying to work with him here.

Kathy - I believe you could sub honey for maple syrup - one for one in recipes. It would taste different - you could play with adding maple flavoring...or do corn syrup and flavoring....I wouldn't do that because of the artifical stuff etc.....BUT I would do honey and have substituted like that. We use maple syrup. NO one liked it at first, but they've adjusted....and they use less than they do with Mrs. Buttersworth. Mike hasn't said "no" to anything but the milk....and I work with him on that. I don't believe it is right to hold my convictions over his wishes...so we work together. LOL You're doing good.
