Terrific Tuesday
Quote of the Day: During our walk Zander kept talking about "men don't kiss their dads - they kiss girls"....this eventually culminated in Michael kissing me in the middle of the street...to which Zander remarked, "You two are LOV...ERS and it was all my idea! You know it." He refused to listen to Mike's reasoning. ::snort::

I woke up with quite a bit of pain. I decided to skip Curves today and do one of Becky Tirabassi's Step Routines. I don't know what I will do when these two videos wear out. I LOVE the Christian music - a blast from the early 90's. ::snort:: I break a BIG sweat when I do any of the workouts...it was much gentler on my wrists today than Curves would have been. I lost all the weight at the start of the year when I was alternating this and Curves. Then I hit my "all or nothing" stride and decided I must do Curves 5 or 6 days a week to hit 100 workouts by the end of the year....I quit losing weight. ::snort:: It's also very hard for me to do the video when Michael is home....because the only tv/vcr (9 incher) is in our room. I had hoped that I could do Curves 5 times a week and skip the video...Curves is QUICKER, out of the house and therefore more convenient in a strange sense...but first the not losing and now the wrist pain - time to tweak the routine again.

I decided to tackle Pizza Sauce today ... I turned this

into this. Before we opened all the cans I decided to give in and buy an electric can opener. Wow....it does the whole Pampered Chef thing with the smooth edges. Cool. Nolan and Zander were totally willing to help open 36 cans of tomato paste and 12 cans of tomato sauce. LOL This became a family affair. Jamin had to help stir....it was THICK.

I 12x the recipe. I have 11 quarts of sauce - enough for 33 pizzas or 11 weeks!

Since I already had sauce all over the stove and counters to clean up; I made Spaghetti Sauce next....here's a photo from a previous marathon sauce adventure. Horrors! The recipe for Spaghetti Sauce is NOT on my blog and it must be.....in case the house burns down or something my goal is to have all our favorites on the blog. ::snort:: I tripled this recipe...I freeze it in quart sizes for quick lunches for the young men (5 qts today). I also freeze it in gal sizes for dinners for us (5 gal bags today). I use this sauce for spaghetti, penne, manicotti and lasagna.

Josiah took pity on me and ran to the post office to mail books. I went to the dry cleaners and they were closed. I'll send Jared's CAP blues to base with Michael tomorrow.

Jamin made some pizza dough and we had pizza for dinner. I thought we'd have Spaghetti, but Zander begged very politely for pizza. LOL

Mike made it home by 6 p.m. so we had a "sorta family dinner". Jamin is off work - Cy is working. Mike is making long distance calls. I'm updating the blog. ::snort::

Bre called on her lunch break - what a JOY to get those calls from WA. She's going to call tomorrow and catch Josiah for a sibling heart to heart.

Ah - here's Michael ready for a walk...I'm off!

I'm going to have to look up your pizza sauce recipe. I do not like buying it. But I can't get one that doesn't taste like spaghetti sauce.

Sounds like a productive kitchen day! I let the boys open all the cans....we only have the PC one :)

Kelly- the link didn't publish but I went back and put it in TWICE now. i LOVE this pizza sauce....I looked for years to find one that we all liked because we really didn't like spaghetti sauce.....this is a Pizza Hut knock off - and then adapted a bit.

FWIW, I also found that I had to vary what I was doing in order to lose weight. And, my personal trainer highly recommends aerobic one day and weight lifting the opposite day - a day off from weights, iow. And, by weights I don't mean free weights body building stuff.. I mean the 8 minute morning type of weights.

Fit for Life talks a lot about the need to give your body a day inbetween the weight things. You might enjoy that book for continuing your "coversation" about health. I really enjoyed it.

Thanks, De'Etta, for the link.

Cynthia is right. You really shouldn't do Curves every day. Even if you are doing it less intensly :) I used to go every day. Now I can't, and it is good for the muscles to rest. And weight loss is always nice :)

You are doing a great job, btw :)

Ha, just got done reading the Abs Diet book and it's all about building muscle to burn more calories to lose weight. They specifically said to take at least 48 hours in between weight sessions to give your muscles time to repair. That might very well be the problem like the others suggested...something to think about:)

Ok, got distracted with the workout thing. The REAL reason I went to comment was to say that those sauces look YUMMY! I'm going to have to try them:)

Your sauce is so yummy! We use a version of it too. In my freezer sorting yesterday I found two batches of pizza dough, so I guess I'll be making some sauce this week for pizza. :)

all - re workouts - I KNOW that ideally you alternate...but since my husband is in bed when I need to work out I began doing Curves all the time...and I wanted to hit 100 workouts. ::snort:: I did run the plan by Curves and the exercise physiologist at base. He said it "might" be a problem, but that many find they can adjust circuit and it's not a problem. It is for me. LOL

Circuit training (like curves) does combine aerobics with weights so I am getting both....THEY said I could do 5 days a week and do the lighter workouts on the off days...but I obviously need a longer, more intense aerobic workout...and 40 minutes on a step does that. LOL

Besides I like the music better...well I like to alternate the funky rock/disco music at Curves with the Christian Contemporary of the Step video. LOL

Thanks for the confirmation that this "may" be the trick I need....

Cindy - is Fit For Life the one thats been out for a long time? If so - I read it when it was new. If not, they've written a new book with an old title. LOL

yum what a nice big batch of sauce! Your freezer must be filling quickly.

DeEtta @ Courageous Joy said...

Yep - we make it. ::snort::

Jodi - the freezer's looking better all the time. LOL

Your spaghetti sauce and pizza sauce are different??? I make one sauce and it goes on everything calling for red sauce! LOL! I am so picky about red sauce, though, and almost never order it at a restaurant because I won't like it!

I love your sauce! I make it and freeze it all the time.

I'll be praying for your wrists. It's amazing how hard it is to get around without them. I hurt mine a few weeks ago and could hardly do anything.

DeEtta @ Courageous Joy said...

Linda - I'm so picky that I dont' want the spaghetti sauce on my pizza. They really are two distinct different sauces. The pizza sauce is meatless, thicker, spicier. LOL

The marinara sauce is well marinara sauce and it goes on all the other Italian dishes. LOL

Thanks, Lisa! I think they will eventually feel better....too much working out, organizing etc.

What can opener did you purchase that works the same as PC. I only have the PC and I love it but I might like an eletric one better!
