PRODUCE CO-OP

I'll update.....later....I did spend a bit of time today on the phone with Adrienne explaining how the "share thing" can work well for a produce c0-op. Jared is insisting I'm a produce commie and that basically I'm promoting communism. It's the GREEN SCARE! ::snort::

Adrienne and I have been buying cases of produce and splitting it. I could keep up with their produce consumption (fairly well), so the share thing wasn't real important....
A funny....last week she told me that "we should be eating 150 pieces of fruit and veggies a week" to eat the recommended 5/6 servings a day. Yep - sure - except when she and Heather had been discussing it, Heather meant a FAMILY, not an individual. I spent two days trying to eat 25 pieces of produce each day. I finally did the math myself. ::Snort:: I love to tease her.

Anyway, we were trying really hard to keep it "simple", but we're to the point that the share thing will be easier, I think. I think we are getting it nailed down so it will work smoothly. I think having shares will allow those who need to UP their consumption to do that without swamping those of us who are swimming in grapes. ::snort::
I am using those questions I shared earlier in the day to determine when, where, and how much I want to invest in this...and she is being very gracious to be sure I don't over-committ. "Does this build my house?" Yes, on a couple of counts. It helps the budget and it builds our health. "Does this detract from my god-given priorities for family/children?" This is trickier. We're working to find a time that will not interfere with school or Friday Fun. LOL I'm not sure we've got that nailed down yet - but we'll play with it until we get it working...and if we can never figure it out...we can go back to splitting cases....but I sure love the variety of having others joining us.

THIS is why I need a produce co-op.
I've learned to NEVER leave a salad unattended. She is also notrious for taking bites out of fruit in the fruit basket.

Ahhh, she is one cute baby! I think I've been getting 25 pieces of produce a day since juicing LOL. Nope, 19 pieces today and a handful of spinach. I'm still going to juice a pear and 2 apples. I must have something better to do than count up my produce consumption :::snort::: Wait, I ate a huge salad...I bet 3 cups of greens, etc. OK...so I did LOL......

It sounds like co-oping will be good. I hope you find a good time to do it. Are you going to be doing the main part?

Awww she'sso cute and healthy too! Sounds like you've got some good ideas to keep on getting all the produce you need...25 pieces a day though, phew that's a lot of produce, LOL

So cute! Now to just get my 9 yo to eat a salad... (Yes, I'm still alive. Busy, but still alive. I need to use your rule about building the house or getting in the way of your priorities. I've been horribly busy lately so my spining plates are falling by the pairs!)

I miss the days of our produce co-op, but the ordering part always took SO LONG and I was the only one who could do that.... some ladies offered to help with the $$ and checking people in/out, and others did the separating and sorting and boxing while a couple of guys worked on cleanup and hauling off extra boxes. It was a TON of work...we were up to 150+ shares when we finally had to quit because it was just TOO big.... it would be fun to do again with a small # of people. The shares definitely made it the way to go for us.

I love this idea. Now if I only had friends where I live.lol

Stacia looks so cute eating that salad and confirms that she's just like Evie. Evie wouldn't eat anything but salad when she was little.lol

Yes, Cindy. I don't want to get near those big shares like we did in San Antonio either....but I want to be big enough that we can get everything we want in a manageable variety....for instance I want a pint of tomoatoes but not 20 lbs of tomatoes. LOL

Shares make it very easy once you get the hang of it...though it IS mind boggling to try to grasp at first...and I'm afraid I overwhelmed Adrienne - though I think she is seeing the benefits now...she CAN get more that she NEEDS and the rest of us can get the amount we need too.....LOL but hey...unless I begin jucing like Kelly - I'll never get those 150 a week! LOL

Oh my goodness - she is so cute! My friends think it is funny that all of my kids LOVE salad. Sometimes when we are at a restaurant they will just order a salad. We eat them a lot!!! Ever since I saw that picture of the HUGE bag of carrots - I have been craving them!
