It's My Birthday!

Yes, I was keeping it low key, but it is...and many of you sent wonderful e-cards and notes. Thank you. I began the day on the scale. Would it be to much to ask to loose a lb on our birthday??? ::snort:: Ah well....it's bouncing between two numbers, so I suspect I lost .5 or maybe .3 of a lb this week. I may give in and get a digital scale with BIG numbers...because it is really, really hard for me to read those little lines early in the a.m.

OK to back up - I dreamed about toaster ovens last night. I'm resisting the temptation to go buy one - but the microwave is making ominous sounds. Who knows, maybe when it explodes, I'll replace it with a bright, shiny, BIG toaster oven. I wonder if they make self-timing toasters? Wouldn't it be wonderful to wake up with that yummy bread smell in the house, crisp toast ready to be slathered in butter and honey??? Hmmm...I must be grain deprived today - actually I TRIED to eat 10 - 12 servings of fruits/vegetables today...and I'm quite sure I'm both grain and protein deprived. Shoot - if I ever manage to eat that many servings of produce I won't be ABLE to eat anything else! I am STUFFED and I only managed 6 servings....tomorrow's another day. I was thinking the dietitian had to be wrong. Wouldn't you know I picked up an excerpt from Don Colbert's (md) new book "The 7 Pillars of Health" and he said that the USDA recommends 5 - 13 servings of produce a day! That seems to be a huge range to me.... OK now - obviously FOOD played a big part in my day - counting food. LOL I'm so stuffed I am not even going to be able to eat my chocolate covered almond - my treat for surviving each day....gotta have that dark chocolate! LOL

We got school done...in fact we started next week's.

I got phone calls from Mike, my folks, and the girls. The girls had all the Master's students sing happy birthday to me. It made me cry. I was glad to have someone sing to me. OH, Beverly (SHS) sent a hilarious birthday card....the cake was a big head of lettuce, turnips around the bottom and carrots for candles! Chris sent one with singing chins....::snort:: OK I'm not going to itemize each card - thanks ya'll....And um...the girls made my day by telling me they want to be like me....sort of...

Adrienne and Tricia came over with their children this afternoon. My children were in HEAVEN to be able to see their friends.

I spent a ridiculous amount of time trying to figure out where I'm supposed to put plumbing tape and wondering WHY there are no longer metal pipes...I really thought I needed to hit something with a wrench to make it all work....but nothing seems sturdy enough to give a good whack! ::snort::

Thus begins my 44th year!

Glad you had a "Veggie Tales" type birthday! I could never eat that much fruit/veggies...You're brave. lol

OK, math isn't my best subject...so help me under stand how you're counting your birthday? Since a 1st b-day is celebrated at the end of the 1st full year of life, I guess it makes sense that you say you're 44 (today marks your 43rd, so technically you're starting your 44th year)...Or maybe you're just trying to age faster to qualify for the lifetime Golden Eagle pass for hiking/camping/geocaching in National Parks? {g}
Just having some fun w/ya Sis. {{G}}
Hope Th is smooth!

Happy Birthday De'Etta!! How delightful to have calls from Mike and the girls (singing girls no less). Did you get breakfast in bed? That's a big one in our family but I think I've only gotten it one year and they woke me up early to make sure I was ready. Ha!

Hey Detta,
Have you thought about ordering a Grain mill att for your Bosch until Mike can fix yours? I know you have your friends grind it for you, but thought I would ask.

-- oh, De'Etta! DREAMING about toasters . . . you MUST be grain deprived!

Thanks all for the birthday wishes....I really am loving this phase of life.

Beth,

I have heard that attachments don't grind as well as grinders. Do you have the attachment? My other thought is that I don't want to spend $ on an attachment and then have it sitting here when I have a good one. I will either have this one fixed or buy a new one...I use it a LOT and grains are a staple around here...well...o.k. I've not had grains much at all lately....since the advent of 10 - 12 servings of produce a day. LOL

Liz...does this mean if I dream about Chocolate Mint Cheesecake I am Choclate Cheescake deprived? We all know if you have a craving it's because your body NEEDS it....I could take this line of thought places....not sure the doc or dietitian would agree...but it sounds logical to ME. ::snort::

Happy Birthday De'Etta!! I was just wondering the other day if you ever got a toaster oven. Ours is on it's last leg, and I wondered what you got. I guess nothing yet, eh?

I'm glad you had such a nice day.

Oh, Doug counts our anniversary like you do your birthday. By the time our anniversary rolls around, I'm so confused. Are we married 17 years NOW or are we now married 18 years LOL. I asked him to quit confusing me. Our anniversary is Oct. In Nov. he is telling people, we'll be married 18 years LOL.

DeEtta,
I had one for my KA. The grain was more coarse but worked fine. I am wondering though if the consistencey wouldn't be better with the Bosch, bc the speed is much better (double) on the Bosch.

Thought about you when I was over at a friends blog. Hers is http://kittenwhiskers.blogspot.com Her last post talks about a "butter bell" to soften the butter (she buys homemade from a country store) so that it is spreadable.

Debbie - I received your card...but I can't reply to you. It was CUTE. Thank you.

DeEtta @ Courageous Joy said...

LOL Kelly. Nope, still am toaster ovenless....

DeEtta @ Courageous Joy said...

Kelly - how long have you had your toaster oven? Do you think you use yours more than others for it to have worn out? Did you like it? Or is it one of those things you think you may want but dont' use as much as you expect to when you purchase it?

De'Etta, I've had it 5 or 6 years. We use it many times a day. I love it, especially in the summer when I want a baked potato.

The timer on our TO quit working, and it doesn't shut off. So we still use it. We set a timer and then unplug it.

We'll replace it as soon as we can. It isn't anything fancy, and I probably won't replace it with anything fancy. It is large enough for 6 slices of toast and my small oval and square and loaf stoneware pans.

Happy Belated Birthday, De'Etta! My FIL's birthday was the 24th as well. I have a bonanza of birthdays in January - both parents, both sisters, one niece, one son, my FIL, & my grandfather. Phew! I'm all done with presents - just need to deliver my Dad's to him - two John Deere tractor signs. :-)
