Toy Update - Toys for Chaplains

Target has a selection of $1 toys and some of them look nice.

I've talked to Mike and he says that even if your toys don't arrive by 10 December, he will have no problem passing them out. The orphanage trip is 10 Dec. If they aren't allowed off post for more orphanage trips he will either 1. pass them out to other nationals who are living hand to mouth and don't have extras for children or 2. put them on a convoy for Iraq. In other words we are not going to overwhelm the need.

Mike also said that we should think all ages....infant - young adult.....now I went out and bought some "sample" toys to leave at the chapel for Sunday....I had a hard time thinking of what to get for teens that would be approrpiate and fun! I'd love to hear some of your ideas. Music or books are out as they are in English.

We are presently doing Operation Christmas Child and so we have thought about the older kids and what to send. Here is what we have come up with...
Hairbrushes
notepads and pens/pencils
Hair accessories
socks
bandanas
stationary/envelopes
coin purses
belts
baseball hats
t-shirts
shoelaces
Hard candies
I am sure there was more but I need to get the day started.
HTH!

My 12 yo is "nearly" a teen and still loves the small legos. Seems like many teens or tweens we know still do lego. Maybe some of the little sets like you sent Mike and the other man in the picture. What about card games, or would they not be able to read the instructions? Mind bender type games, like rubiks cube and other puzzler type games. Sometimes you see tiny puzzles with about 100 pieces in the dollar shop. Girls might still like beads to make their own necklaces and such, sometimes you see pretty sets not just cutesy ones. Or am I still thinking too young?

Sis: Boss gave me a grocery bag full of McDonald toys, another one is going to bring all of her x-husbands tons of matchbox toys... others are doing this and that.

Will be fun to get this packer on the 25th and send. We'll see how many remember.... HA I'll remind them.
