Monday

Several of us are still fighting colds and sore throats.

I went to Curves today. I'm going to try to do the 5-6 workout plan this week. I'm not sure HOW you get your heart rate up enough to count as aerobic while "going easy" on the machines. We'll see if I can figure it out. It was so much TOUGHER to get a video workout in at home than it is to go to the club. I'm going to try Curves only this week and see.....LOL

We did school.

Josiah suggested that the younger ones, he and I go caching after school. I agreed. He went to http://www.geocaching.com/ and found some coordinates for us to search out. Stacia ended up taking a nap and staying home. We found 5 caches (photos below).

We ran a few errands between caching and our evening activities.

Tonight I went out with a few friends: Charly, Sherry and Beth. It was a surprise shower for Beth. Becky, we went to your and Ian's favorite Italian spot and I thought of you.

We found MORE areas of town that we'd not seen before while out caching. Immediately after stepping out of the van Arielle and I landed on an ant hill. 30 minutes later, driving down the road, one of those pesky fire ants got me between my toes. OUCH.

I took a few pictures to show that we aren't wimps on our caching trips in W TX. I KNOW we aren't dealing with snow...but.....

Cactus....touch one and you get at least 5 thorns...

Mesquite trees/thorns....these are above you AND on the ground...

those thorns go ALL the way through shoes....

Nolan and Zander retrieve our first cache

Rattler Hotel Swampy, tall grass, warm day - we sent Josiah out alone on this one! ::snort::
Zander found his first cache! The kids did real well at not saying "there it is" but moving away when they found it....and thus....Zander was able to find this on his own. He was pretty excited.

The last cache of the day....big enough to leave lots of goodies in....we were even able to leave the snowman book we had picked up at an out of town cache.

Wow, those are some mean looking thorns. I guess I'll keep our snow.

What fun, five caches. Great job, everyone!

Oh, that's FUNNY! I just blogged about our cactus, and I said the spines go through shoes too!!

Looks like a great day!

Ouch! Those are some nasty looking thorns. What fun to find some caches! You are a great mom - taking your kiddos out on adventures. Good job. :)

De'Etta, your blog looks very springy! I wish I could figure out HTML. I am considering moving my blog to blogspot. Maybe I'll figure it out lol.

Why are you going easy on the machines? Because you are recovering from an illness? Because you are supposed to work the machines as hard as possible and go easy on the recovery boards if your heart rate is too high.

Those are some nasty thornes! Way to go Zander on your first catch \o/

Your weather is gorgeous!

Nolan & Alexander: WOW! You two did great finding your first caches!! Good Job!! Now you will be able to show G'Pa & G'Ma sometime when we are down there and G'Pa can go walking etc.

love you two! Praying for you!

Ooo, I don't like the look of those thorns.

Was there a reason you sent Josiah to get something on his own? What bad thing were you expecting?

The worst we have to cope with on walks is brambles and nettles.

Kelly - Machines...they said if you do it every day to go easy every other day???? I tried. I kept my heart rate right at 70% so it's still aerobic and I didn't go quite as fast on the machines....I'm hoping I CAN go 5 - 6 days a week and that my wrist won't act up...so far...just slight aches....

Dorothy - warm days, swampy tall grass can spell nasty, venomous snakes in this part of the country. I hate snakes! I mean I'm terrified of snakes. One of the favorite familiy stories around here is from our first summer here. We were at the state park....and stretched across the road was a rattler...I began TRYING to point it out.....now Mike tells the children, "If your mom starts chattering like a squirrel and bouncing up and down....stop and find the rattler!" ::snort:: We decided Cy could tackle the snakes...we waited on the road (Arielle stayed IN the van). LOL

Oh yes, I forgot they say that about the every-other-day thing. I only take it easy on the machines if my muscles are sore. I figure, body builders work their muscles hours a day, every day. so 15 min. on the machines isn't going to hurt me, every day LOL. I figured it is only 15 min. on machines and 15 min. on recovery board. So, unless I am having exceptional pain, I work them as hard as possible. Hmmm, guess I shouldn't ever share that if I work there again, eh?

I'm going to try your way....at this point I'm making sure my heartrate is where it needs to be and counting it as good. LOL

FWIW, my brother explains it (and hope I explain it right) that everytime you do resistance training your body needs a recovery day to allow the muscles to rebuild themselves which is why it's recommended to only do the resistance training every other day and endurance training the opposite days. The book he gave me called Body for Life.

De'Etta - I second what Cindy said. When I was faithfully working out I had to limit my weight workouts to every other day OR at least work different parts of the body if I was going to work out heavy every day.

I know the every other day - that's why you work the machines hard every other day and easier on the other days.....the trainer is watching me...closely. So far - so good.
