Family, fire and fun...that's what this Friday was about. Michael and I drove to Eagle River to meet up with Carrie and a friend for lunch. It's always a treat to share life with our adult kids (of which we count Carrie) and their friends. The food and conversation were fantastic, and I got the extra benefit of Josi snuggles.

GG had a late lunch when we got home. It was such a nice day he ate out on the deck. I love this weather. Michael and I decided it was the night for the first fire of the season. Allie finished the semester today - that was cause enough to celebrate. We sent a notice to the family chat we'd light the fire around 7 p.m. I read a few chapters and then realized I should check the s'more kit.
I decided it needed refreshing.
I went shopping while Michael cleaned the garage. I walked out of the store and the sky was bright. Before I got to the van it began to dump buckets of cold rain. I called Michael and he told me it was sunny at our place. This often happens. As I drove home, I kept reaching the spots where the weather often changes and it was pouring at each spot, over the bridge, at the market stand, at the turn off the hwy... water was running down the road. Michael appreciated the warning it was coming his way. BUT IT DIDN'T. See the wet pavement in the foreground? See the bright, dry, sunny spot near the end of the road? That's the turn onto our road. It was bright and sunny at home and never rained over our home.
Nolan joined us for the fire. The kit was ready, the wood was laid, and Michael was prepped with his can of diesel. We were ready for the first fire of this season.
"This is Gen Z enjoying the outdoors," she says tongue in cheek.
"Hello, Boomer."

I love this man. |
We are anticipating many more campfires this year. We hope to have others join us around our fire.
