TODAY’S ACTIVITY - Momentous!

THIS is a momentous post. I have resisted writing my blog entries in Word since my computer crashed. I composed, added photos etc in Word so that I would have a printable form of my journal/blog – just in case I ever wanted to print it...and in case blog spot ever hiccups. Yes, you read it right. I would compose, add photos, save, copy text to blogger, and then upload photos AGAIN.

When my computer broke, I decided that I would use the blogger screen alone until I had MY computer back…after all it was only temporary. Today I admit that this is not temporary. I may never see MY computer again. ::snort:: I’ve got a LOT of blog entries now that I have to figure out how to get into Word.

I realize that All that doesn’t matter a WIT to anyone but ME. LOL

Thanks for all the well wishes for a quiet day today. Let’s see…
~Curves – weigh in, blogged that already.

~Ran to the recycling center AGAIN (with 3 youngest ones in tow).

~Deposited all checks in local bank that I forgot at HOME yesterday when I went to the bank. ::snort::

~Jamin made trail mix, muffins, and granola for our trip.

~Tried to keep younger ones who are getting VERY wound up – calm!

~Had a meeting with the owner of our local health food store. We discussed what he could do for us price wise since Shop Natural is now adding a $50 per month fuel charge. While there we discussed milk. Yeah – milk. I know – strange – but it was on my mind. Yesterday Zander had skim milk at BK. The healthy choice. ::snort:: - except for HIM he can’t handle the preservative in the skim milk. THEN we went to Sam’s club – of the blinking lights. By the time we left the store he was spinning and flapping….I’m going to have to be diligent on this trip. I’ve also been thinking about the high price of milk since last Sunday night when it cost Mike $4.11 a gal. at Wal-Mart. I asked David if he knew where I could buy CERTIFIED raw milk. Certified because Mike wants it checked. Certified raw milk is scrutinized very carefully! I’ve been looking for this for a long time. He said that he is forming a buying club. The dairy is CERTIFIED, and will deliver here once a month. OK – that’s not wonderful but it’s a start. The milk will be $5 a gal – because it’s a buying club. $5 isn’t too bad for certified raw…..and the price gap narrows the more that milk prices rise.

~Took Jamin to the library so he could tour the reference section with the librarian. I was chided for having my water bottle in the library. That’s a first! I’ve been reading a book on Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Those few minutes in the library led to this: all written by DB or from personal friends, family members. ~Got some make up and chatted with my neighbor who sells it.

~Did I say the children are WILD? Zander has asked me 30 times today when we are leaving.

~I got to talk to Krista – who is ill.

~I talked to Bre – who is excited to see us in a couple of weeks.

~I cleaned and did laundry.

~ I kept typing the spreadsheets for the trip (camping list, destinations, people to see….)

~Stacia emptied Arielle’s suitcase and climbed in. She spent the rest of the day looking at Cy’s photos and saying, “Cyy…..Cyyyy!!!”

That's great you have a source of milk coming! Did you not have a fuel charge before? Or did it go up? I know we have one, but I am not sure what it is. I just know I usually have a little over a dollar added to my bill to cover that.

I'm seeing more and more fuel surcharges being added to bills. Our garbage service just added a fuel surcharge and so did a couple of our suppliers... just in the last month! It's a whole separate line item on the bill.. not sure what's up with that since most places just up the prices. I need to check into the reasoning behind have a separate line item expense for the fuel surcharge so thanks for the reminder. As you can imagine we go through a LOT of fuel around here running a heavy equipment construction company.

De'Etta, will you do the pictures of gas prices along the way again. That was fun and it would be interesting to see the differences.

I'm sure the kids must be just about giddy with excitement. I'm excited for you and I'm not even going! :-)

Hope the rest of your plans fall together nicely.

Jen - our fuel charge was $10 a month as a group - now it's $50. I was adding $1 and then 2.25% that they charge.....

Now we're going to 10% for fuel and the 2.25% that they tack on.

David is willing to give us a 10% discount for anything ordered by case. He'll send a price list out once a month...but I'm not sure if the price will be near or not....

Not sure what we'll do - but the milk is a good thing. LOL

Cindy - well the fuel charge for this has always been - it's the shipping.

I would think businesses are saying "fuel charge" because they want to raise the prices but want you to be mad at someone besides them. ::snort::

$10 per order was REALLY cheap for shipping.....I knew a raise would have to come. LOL

LOL Debbie - I may be able to do that....I'll let you know. I may go high tech this time....I may be able to blog from the road with photos and not have to load them all when we get home.....I wonder if I could get a wi fi connection on the interstate. LOL

Woman,do you need a vacation from vacation planning! lol

Do you save your spreadsheets to disk/print them and put in your camper so you know exactly where they are next time you head out?
Sounds like another flip chart/check list opportunity for others to assist with. Way to go Jamin on sharing the food prep load!

You're a great organizer De'Etta.

Gosh, your milk prices are high! I just bought a gallon at Sam's Club on Tuesday for $2.68! I'll have to keep a watch on that. Thankfully we only use 1 to 1 1/2 gallons a week :)

Zander sounds like me. We're going on vacation end of July and I keep thinking....isn't it time to go yet??? Of course, I don't drive myself crazy....guess I shouldn't keep bugging Doug and telling him I can't wait for our vacation lol.....

Our raw milk here in PA is $4.50 a gallon but I think our farmer is going to raise prices again.
I do have over an hour drive to pick up the milk.
Two of our children won't drink raw milk, one can't drink milk, so that leaves me, my dh and daughter. I have never been a big milk drinker, dh drinks a good amount, and my daughter loves it and drinks a cup a day.
So we have been toying w/ the thought of not driving so far and just buying from a local natural food store.
Gas is so high right now and our truck gets 15-19 miles to the gallon.
When we buy in bulk we do freeze the milk and thaw out as needed. It works nicely w/ no problems.
Have a great vacation!!

Kelly at Sam's club it is 3.89 or 3.98 - we have to buy the whole milk.....tough we get one skim for every 15 whole for Jamin and I. LOL

Laura,

We used to have a friend who delivered milk for a big brand to the supermarkets. He would give us all the past dated milk to freeze and use.

I was thinking about this when the "monthly milk buy" thing came up. I think I could do that....

Boy you are REALLY busy!! Raw milk here is $5, so it is true. Have you looked at Walton feed to see if there is anything you can get from them? I know it will be when you get back. Enjoy your trip. I just wished you were coming this way, sigh!

Did you know that with regular milk (not organic) they are allowed to add bleach to kill bacteria? Disgusting!

De'Etta,
Glad your day was so productive. We should have planned a playdate here, so you could have had some quiet... We'll have to get together when you get back. Have a great trip!

What's with the "no water" at the library? Although I guess I was surprised that my library ALLOWS covered drinks, but that's it.

I guess they want you to get your books and GO!

Our milk goes from $2.49 a gallon at Walgreens to $3.89 at the grocery . .. our gas prices have been dropping we are close to $2.80 a gallon now.

I don't think our library allows any beverages. The only library I have been in that does is one in Columbia that has a coffee shop in the lobby, but I think you have to stay there with it. I don't blame them for not wanting to have to clean up messes in the library. I was actually surprised to see the coffee shop!

hey all

milk in Fort Sumner, NM - small town was $1 a gal less than Sam's in our town. What's up with THAT? mike says they must have a dairy nearby.

Bleach? Yuck!
