Confessions of a Scatterbrained Homeschooler (of 18 years ::snort::)
Or ARRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!

I spent two days looking for a book that is out of stock EVERYWHERE. I was sure I recognized the book. That really doesn't mean a lot when you've homeschooled as many years as we have. I recognize many books from catalogs and such that we've never owned. I checked the shelves...several times! I couldn't find it. I decided I must recognize it from catalogs and websites.

Finally, I ordered it on the 3rd day. Immediately before several gracious folks on SHS offered me a copy at better prices. I paid full price for the book - AND had to pay shipping. I'm out $30 for this book. I already was feeling less than pleased with this purchase. ::sniff::

Today - I FOUND THE BOOK ON MY BOOKSHELVES - NOT WHERE IT SHOULD BE - BUT ON THE SHELVES. I can't cancel the order. WHAT am I going to do with two new copies of this book? I can't possibly sell a it for new price, plus shipping, only I would pay that much for this book. ::snort::

I'm fairly disgusted with myself over this. I'm thinking I WILL make it a priority to put those little Dewey numbers on my books and get them all into a data base....I'll make it happen before I order another year of books!

Now, if I find that I already own a copy of Norton's Anthology of Western Lit ($68+), I'll be forced to inhale an EXTRA LARGE BAG OF M/M's.

Oh De'Etta! If it makes you feel any better, something similar has happened to me too.

Praying you don't need the large bag of m&m's but standing by, just in case. :::grin:::

I did this just the other week. I ordered the CLEP study guide after searching my shelves for it. I was SURE that I had bought it but nope, wasn't anywhere. Guess what I found the day after the new one came. Yep, the old one.LOL

De'Etta....that hurts!

You can get very large bags of m&ms at Sam's for a very low price. Don't ask me how I know :::snort:::

ARGH. I think this happens to us all at least a couple times. I know it has to me but not such an expensive book. You definitely deserve some m&m's or chocolate of your choice.

I have the m/m's I'm equipped to face this year of school. The problem is that my hips are expanding as the bag shrinks. LOL

Have you considered putting your books on librarything.com? It does take some initial set-up but it has saved me countless hours of looking for books at our house.

I love librarything.com The kids help me input all the books and now it is at our fingertips...or at least we know it is somewhere in the house. :)

UGH... I've had the same thing happen here, but not with such an expensive book.

Are you SURE you can't return it? Can you refuse the package when it comes? Not sure if that would be acceptable or not??? Just wondering.

Last year I put all of our books into order according to when they come up in TOG and that has been SO HELPFUL to me this year! I never did get around to the database and probably won't now that all my books are in chronological order.... or subject if it's science, math, or l/a.

Barb - I have readerware and need to get it loaded onto my computer. I think that would give me the data base without it being online? Not sure. I've not checked into library.com very much.

I certainly need to do something.

Cindy - you may remember that we have a similar system. I have my books chronological and then the SL books by years but I know where they are. THEN I have subjects as you do. The problem is that this book was NOT with the chronological books - it was on the art shelf. LOL My bad - I forgot to look.

When I read this the first time, I thought you were looking for the book titled "Confessions of a Scatterbrained Homeschooler"--and found it hilarious that you couldn't find it -- and it also made sense why it was out of stock, because no one can find their own copy to sell used, lol!
