Vacation Blogging

I've decided to practice "vacation blogging".

I'll capture my thoughts daily in Word, and post all the qued entries when I'm around a connection….instead of dreaming of a connection to post daily and losing our first thoughts and impressions of our new home. This seems the best way to keep the family journal current with the present Internet limitations.

We were told last week it will be another 3 - 4 weeks until phone and Internet are installed. All our others neighbors have been told late November/December. I'm guessing they didn't want to tell us how much longer it would be. I was a bit desperate when they called last week to tell me they had no idea how long it would be. "PLEASE find out why the telephone company isn't calling us. I need to talk to my babies in America." ::snort::

I have found a few wifi connections out in this area….but I don't want to make over use of them. I WAS able to finally talk to the girls, Mom and Dad G and my parents this weekend. It was good.

~Today is Tuesday. I'm up here for PWOC, a conference call, compliling this week's Protestant News and Middle school drama. I have six blog posts to upload...We've also tried to buy printer ink, a camera battery charger, a CD player and printer paper - but ALL WERE OUT OF STOCK! ::snort:: On with my work and I'll upload posts in between.

Quick blurb

We found wifi out by us....so I can check email and skype. It was fun to finally reach the girls, my parents and Mom and Dad G. I can't do it often but it beats a 25 min drive to TRY to reach folks....I've discovered that the hours that work for driving to base are the hours that most are sleeping.

We kept working on the house yesterday....and went to the beach.

They began harvesting the rice fields across from us. We're very interested in the process...and taking photos....I'll blog when I can upload photos.

Neighbors have been told it will be December until we have phone or internet....

See the Christmas Decorations? These are the only ones I've seen so far around town....but they do sell some....can you see the banner across the top? Happy Halloween. ::snort::

Windy & De'Etta's Big Night Out

We're at the library, with our laptops. ::snort:: This is a great setting. They have a wifi lounge...quiet....but skype is o.k.

I tried to reach everyone on Skype and then realized it was 3 a.m. your time. I'll be back online tomorrow afternoon my time.... 2:30 - 6:30 p.m.

Here are a few photos from the past days. Librarian says they close in 10 min.

So many seashells - so little time. We're having a blast with this new SMELLY collection.


Have to run.....but I'll be back tomorrow afternoon....maybe I'll have time to do some online shopping for snow boots and such.

Today

ACK no time to blog - but must say something.

The youngers and I came to base to mail things, check our post office box, check email and blog. BUT business took all the time.

They say 3 - 4 more weeks before we have a home phone or Internet. I think I'll make it a goal to come up 2 or 3 a.m's a week to update.

But for now...we're busy. The house is nearly finished. We're enjoying the beach and a.m. walks in rice fields.

Swan Park

Yesterday afternoon we decided we needed an adventure. We found Swan Park 2 miles from our home. We also stopped by the Farmer's Market. I was frustrated as I tried to say things that I couldn't say in Japanese....but when we left Jared commented that I had handled the entire conversation...from "Dozo, Dozo" to "Nan desu ka" etc in Japanese. Cool. I guess the motto is to say less. ::snort::

Quick photos as I really need to check one more online business thing and get out of here.

Kim, would you not believe how often one of the kids (or Mike and I) will say, "Take a photo, let's ask Miss Kim or Mr Ryu what that means!" LOL

2 - 5 October - Moving Days....2 and beyond

Friday the rest of our household goods arrived. We'd left things that we wished we'd brought....and there are a few things that I'm taking to the thrift store. All in all we did well with the info we had. If we'd moved into base housing, we wouldn't want any of the things we left. ::snort::

We have spent the past few days unpacking, organizing, shopping for shelves, furniture pads etc.....and we're not done. The curtains are all different here, so none of ours worked. All bedrooms now have curtains. LOL I can't find bookshelves here....but I'll keep looking.

We have stuff all over the edges of rooms as we haven't hung anything yet. Mike wants to hang things as all the walls are wall papered over plywood and we are being careful not to leave more holes than needed. ::ahem::

Go figure - very excited over the silverware!


LOOK - all the way from TX....now if Chick Fil A would only start a store here. CY....tell Tim O that McDonald's in our small town is the biggest money maker in Northern Japan because the Americans are hungry for "home". I know Chick Fil A could do a rip roaring business here. LOL

Well...the typhoon isn't going away. I'm going to go shopping and head home.....I've paid bills, weeded out the in box and blogged.....but NO ONE was on skype.
