Ye Old Party Animal Hat

When I mailed Mike's birthday package today, I began to think about family traditions. This is our party animal hat. It is worn by each of us on our birthday. He's been to chapel, skating, work, VBS, Bible Studies, movies, moves.....these pictures were taken several years ago. I'm currently using the computer that belonged to BreAnne and Krista...I KNEW they would have pictures of the pig hat. ::snort:: Bre's computer does seem to highly favor Arielle. WOW...seeing pictures of Bre at 13 holding Arielle at 6 months.....realizing they are now 21 and 9...{sigh}

The hat is wearing out. Birthday season is approaching our household. We have 7 birthdays between now and the end of Feb.

I have googled and searched and I'm not finding another party animal hat like this...if any of you happen to see such a thing....please let me know. LOL It just won't be the same covered in duct tape.

I'm thinking we need to begin sending him around the world on birthdays..

Great tradition!
www.keadz.com has fun hat selections including a 3-tier neon party cake. Happy browsing!

I love the hat tradition. How did it start?

Sis: Next time we visit I'll sew the hat where it needs it and it will be almost as good as new.

I love it! What a very cool tradition. No help on finding one, but it is great!

The hat tradition started because I'm a bit zany. LOL I saw the pig hat - it said "party animal" on it and it was the end of January. I thought - this would be great to make the boys wear on their birthdays. It was such a hit that he stayed around and is pulled out 11 times a year these days.

Mom - the hat the pig wears is pulling loose....but the real worn part is the silk part around the brim of the hat is wearing off or out or something...like those silk baby blankets...Maybe I could replace that? I do like the idea of keeping this one....I also think it would be fun to send him to the girls this year for their birthday...I could pick him up again when we go out for Conference in June. LOL

Oh - I should mention that I discovered the hat AFTER my birthday in January so the whole family wore him once and then MADE me and the tradition was set. LOL

And again - that silky stuff I was explaining....if you look at the photos you can see some where it was new and the last couple were when it was starting to wear....and now it is really worn...the pink is pretty white...if that makes sense....any seamstresses care to tell me how hard it will be to fix this?????

I'm no seamstress (LOL), but it seems to me it would sure be worth trying to repair since it's an heirloom now, right? Do you have to take apart? Can you just measure and cut a piece to sew over the top of the piece that is worn out?

I have no clue...I'm thinking it needs some help before another year of partying...or it may disintegrate before our eyes. LOL

I'll have it out at co-op tomorrow night - maybe one of those ladies is a seamstress and give me a first hand look...I would think I could top stitch the hat on the hat...and replace the pink band.....but how I have not a clue. LOL

If Mom t can sew it almost as good as new, can you send it to her for TLC?

I'm sure that the pink brim is not actually part of the pig and could be removed and repaired or redone. You know anyone who can sew I would definately give it a try. It would be a shame to lose such a wonderful family tradition.

That's such a great story! He definitely needs to be fixed!

Ya'all have convinced me. I will NOT get a new party hat...I'll fix the pig. I was surprised that the kids were a bit unsettled at the idea of a new party animal hat too. LOL

I LOVE the birthday cake hat...but I guess I'm stuck with a pig. ::snort:: THIS is what I get for buying something off the wall. LOL

Maybe I'll get the cake type one to send to my children's children....when they get busy and find a spouse and have a baby....do I sound like a Jewish mama?
