Foundations of Personal Fitness

I'm collecting resources for a unit study I want to do with my YOUNGER students (4th, 3rd, k) on fitness. I want to cover exercise, hygiene, and nutrition. I'm not sure I want to delve very deeply into anatomy and systems of the body....maybe.

Jamin used Foundations of Personal Fitness for a quick 1/2 credit in health last year. We really liked this book. I'd like to find something similar for the younger ones....but I plan on using this as a basis for topics I want to cover.

I plan to use worksheets, coloring pages, posters etc from the My Pyramid site.

I'm fairly well versed in nutrition from recently reading "What the Bible Says about Healthy Living" and "The Seven Pillars of Health" - both books I have on my shelves.

I have "Homeschool Family Fitness" and plan to use it to spur interest and structure in a fitness program. The older ones got a kick out of it when we used it years ago. LOL

I'd like this to be a fun and informative study for the kids. I'd also like them to take ownership for eating a variety of healthy food and getting out and moving every day at the end of the study.

I plan to pick up a host of books from the library this weekend to use. Does anyone have any other resources, books, worksheets, projects?

I'm also looking for a few fun, hands on projects to go with our unit.

How about Lil Lizards? Guess that's not exactly "hands on", but more "feet on" LOL.

My kids loved the Abeka Health program in the 1-3rd grades. Lots of photos, activities, and not too indepth. We never did the course, just used the book for reference.

And once you have this all pulled together, you'll share - right?? Maybe?? :-) I'd love to get my older two eating better & moving more.
