Friday and Saturday

Produce Co-op

Jamin got his driver's permit....We're still amazed at how complicated that is down here. It involved finding a notary public, filling out 4 forms, and even in our small town HOURS of waiting. LOL

PWOC Crop for me - work for the older two - Jared watched the younger ones and they watched two netflix movies: The Young Black Stallion and The Ugly Daschound.

The Younger Ones are playing hospital these days This photo is to allow me to comment on two things: we went and picked Michael up this morning and he really wasn't IN the woods - woods are scarce around here ::snort:: The Moving Wall is in our town. This is a replica of the Vietnam Memorial. We went to see it this afternoon. We had studied this time period last year and so the kids were aware of what it stood for and had seen photos of the memorial in DC. We even have a square for it on our history quilt. I wasn't prepared for how moving this was; I cried. It's simple and yet all those names make a stunning visual impact. Most the photos didn't turn out well because of the bright sun, but here are a couple.... Zander was interested in all the letters, cards, flowers, and pictures that folks had left - very poignant for me. For some reason it was very important to him that he know the the name of the first man killed and the last man killed....I walked him through and found the names for him.

Our family outings are certainly getting smallerBack at home Stacia tries out yet another toilet....Various ziggurats (sp)Stacia is now fascinated with THIS door and hangars since her Thursday night rescue.

LOL about the hangar and the door (LOL)!.

The memorials are very sobering. When we visited the 9-11 site in NYC it was like time just stood still....

When we only had our three oldest, we took them to see the moving Vietnam Wall when it came to Hawai'i. You're right....the visual of seeing all those names....moved me to tears.

**ziggurats**

I thought you were calling your children something there until I looked it up. LOL

ziggurats,something beyond rugrats??

Is one of the ziggurats sugar cubes and if so how did he get the colors so vibrant?

I've never seen that memorial but I bet I would feel very sad too. Seeing all the names must make it more real.

When we took our family to see the wall in Washington, my dad asked me to get rubbings of the names of 2 men he knew who died right next to him. The wall was hard enough. Getting those rubbings and realizing that these 2 men died inches from my father made it so much harder to bear. It is an important part of history.

Brian worked at the moving wall last year and it was tremendously emotional for me and I don't even know anyone on the wall. I can not imagine how hard it might be for someone who has a loved ones name there.

I found the reading of the names almost eerie...the constant sound of someones voice reading off the names and how quiet the place was, except for those names.

I remember seeing the wall in Washington DC. It does bring tears to your eyes when you see all the names.

We saw the traveling wall last year. I did the same, bawled through it.

I had an uncle in Viet Nam. Since we lived in California, he would visit us on his short leaves, and I can remember him bringing me and my sister fun stuff like coconut piggy banks, lol. (But his name's not on the wall or anything horrible like that.)

Jodi - yes Jared's is made from sugar cubes. He painted it. Some of it disintegrated when he did. His book said they painted each level a new color.

Yep, all those memorials are moving...

Thanks for answering about the colored cubes. I was wondering how they could be colored without disintegrating. Maybe they can't but it still looks like the project came out nice.

Sis:

We too were moved when we went to the main park by the river in Springfield to view the V-memorial. It was awesome and so moving.
