Another Monday

I'm so surprised at how much I accomplished today!

I worked out.

I read another 12 pages in "The Bible in 90 Days".

We got school done. We really got school done. The kids all seemed interested in the books we were reading on Ancient China. We only have one week on this area - I think we'll stretch it a bit. We shall see.

We went to speech. Nolan is doing so well.....in fact his READING has sky rocketed. I'm excited. He's a bit "behind" because we focused solely on his speech for his K and 1st grade years. I was surprised that that 3 week break seemed to accelerate his reading! ::snort::

I made more copies for tomorrow night. I did some more work on study.

Tonight was to be our first United co-op. The truck didn't show up. It will come in the morning. I have heard this before about United. TCW/Shop Natural always had the driver call us the day before and give us an appt. say 5:15 p.m. But we'll adjust.
I even cleaned house and did 5 loads of laundry.
Josiah started his new semester. He has two new profs. Instead of 3 long days of classes; he'll be taking 5 shorter days. His plan is to be able to study a couple of hours before work each day at the campus library...rather than studying after work until 1 a.m. (and um...the rumor is we're a bit noisey around here).
Nothing earth shattering, but I feel like I'm starting to get a handle on the new schedule.

Did you review this book "The Bible in 90 Days" and I missed it? Or perhaps it's too early for a review since you're still reading it. It sounds very interesting. I'd like to know more about it when you have a chance! :-)

Isn't it amazing how each semester is a whole different schedule?! I'm STILL trying to get used to the new normal.LOL Used to be, once you picked your curriculum for the year and spent the first few weeks tweeking things, everything was smooth til the next year. Shew. I'm tired.LOL

This sounds so exciting. We are still struggling to get back on schedule. I keep reassuring myself that it will come. It will come! ;o)

Great post De'Etta!

Hey DeEtta,
How were you able to set up a produce co-op in your area? Who did you call? How do you figure out cost and where do you go to pick it up? There USED to be a produce co-op in our area, but for some reason it quit before I moved here. Investigating one for our homeschool group. How many families do you limit it to? How far in advance do you collect their money? Do you do it weekly?

Just picking your brain for a bit. Write when you can

Linda - it's a Bible. It IS exciting - but it's a Bible....they just have you read 12 pages in it a day....and you are done in 90 days. I'm in Joshua now.

BEth - I do it weekly.

We called the produce manager of the store with the best produce in town and asked if he'd give discounts if we ordered in cases. I explained what we'd be doing.

We charge $28 a share...becuase that is what we wanted to charge. LOL I was trying to remember yesterday how we arrived at that much. A friend and I had been buying cases together. We figured we were getting about 3 shares so divided what we'd been spending to get a single share price. LOL

I have them pay me BEFORE I pick up. Most pay for their next week when they pick up a basket of produce.

If I did this again I would buy a bunch of baskets MYSELF and just charge a start up fee due with the 3rd order....it would save time not having to find everyone's personal basket during set up.... Some order weekly, some every other week and one monthly. Some get 2 shares every week - some get 1 share one week and 2 the next. Some find a friend and split a share (THEY do all the splitting).

It's hard to get much with less than 10 shares - at 30 shares I have to take two seats out of my van. With lower numbers you get bigger quantities of fewer items.

I pick up at the store - sort at my house - ladies pick up here.

hmm, so would you buy 2 baskets per person then? What kind of start up fee would you require? Can you tell me what is included in the $28 share?

Thanks alot
Beth

Oh! How long does it take you to read each day and what version is it in?

DeEtta @ Courageous Joy said...

Linda - I'll have to time it. I have told myself no other reading until it is done....and it looks like a book so I can easily take it along everywhere I take a book (smaller than my Bible)...so I'm not sure...I'll time it. I'm in Judges now. LOL

Beth - yes two baskets for folks that get a single share. Four baskets if they get double.

For $28 last week folks got 2 Pineapples, 2 lbs of grapes, 5 lbs of Clementies, 2 things of celery, 3 clumps of broccoli, 10 carrots, 11 Pink Lady Apples, 15 bananas, 1 head of Romaine, a bit less than a lb of asparagus and I can't remember what else....oh Romas - a lot. Hmmm.....maybe more....

You might remember we got a little behind with Emily because we concentrated so much on her speech. Just the other day she thanked me for spending all that time on her speaking earlier on even though it means she's having to work extra hard now. She said she's glad she speaks clearly today!

So, keep up the good work!
