Hummingbirds

Michael told me it could take a few weeks to attract hummingbirds...but look!  It was great fun to look outside during school and see this little guy. They continued to come all day. Isn't this a pretty feeder?

Unfortunately, they don't seem to like our nectar. They've not come back...they didn't really stay around long. We'll have to google and see if we can come with a homemade recipe that works better. They were so fun to watch.

I know the commissary sells bird seed so maybe they also have hummingbird nectar

De'Etta, I make my own nectar. 4 to 1 water to regular sugar. I put water and sugar in a pan, bring to a boil and then boil low for about 2 minutes. Let cool. Serve. Make sure you change it regularly even if the feeders aren't empty. I change mine twice a week. What types of hummers are you getting. We only have one on the east coast, the Ruby-throated Hummingbird.

I'm going to give it a try. They don't really seem to like this. They come taste, flit a second and leave. LOL And we had a lot the first day but very few repeat customers. So sad. Rejected by the birds. I'm not sure what kind we have, Debbie. I'll try to learn and let you know.
