Musings….

“And let us not grow weary while doing good for in due season we shall reap if we do not loose heart” (Gal 6:9 – NKJV)

I’m weary tonight….I watch my little one and think that I’ll never have the stamina to maintain the consistency that he NEEDS. I suppose it’s fairly normal to be weary but am I dwelling here? Do I camp out with defeating thoughts? Do I allow those thoughts and frustrations to cause me loose heart? I can’t loose heart. I know that I’m on nothing short of a mission from the Father. He has given these kids into my care. I must keep on…planting, watering, mentoring, discipling and disciplining and some day there will be a reaping. The littlest in my family deserve the same nurturing care and foundation that the older ones received. They will not get it if I allow myself to camp out at “weariness”. I must take every thought captive…even the small niggling one that says “by this time in life I should be able to cruise”. I’m on a mission. I must keep my eyes FIXED on HIM…I must keep on keeping on. I must not grow weary and above all I must not loose heart.

Enough of that….I actually ended up with a roast that tasted good even though I didn’t want to use the dry onion soup mix and the tomato soup. I’d love to hear what some of you substitute for “dry onion soup mix”. I’d not even considered it until this a.m. Heather, shared a really yummy taco seasoned “sweet potato fry” recipe in our produce co-op. I’ve used those seasonings for the base to make a taco mix…..I can make white sauce and add mushrooms for anything calling for mushroom soup….I used 12 oz of tomato paste today instead of condensed soup….but what about that dry onion soup mix????

After dinner I gave Stacia and Zander for a bath. Jamin cleaned up the kitchen (and mopped – what a MAN). Josiah drove Jared, Arielle and Nolan to CCSA. They are really enjoying the VBS type program that the church is doing for a few weeks. We’ve not really found a wed night church home. I’m not sure we’ll keep looking. The boys wanted us to find a youth group – but we aren’t finding quite what they are looking for. The chapel does keep us very busy and so we don’t have a lot of free nights to commit to another church. I’m out every Tuesday night. BUT anyway….Josiah and Jamin are previewing the Narnia PS2 game. The little ones don’t know we have a PS. We don’t want them spending a lot of time playing it. So…Zander and I were amusing ourselves in the living room and Krista called. The little Houdini took advantage of my preoccupation and found the big boys playing PS2. I’ll deal with the fall out from this tomorrow and the next day and the next day….

I love the picture the girls had made. I keep glancing at it and missing my babies. There are days when waves of loneliness still hit and I wish so badly that we could roll back the clock and have all the little chicks in the nest. The good news is that one of the leaders at MC (I think she’s a leader) told Krista that she thinks they need to come home for their break and not hang around Spokane to work. I agree. We need to see them. We miss them terribly. Even better news is that Master’s Commission is delaying their start date for next year as they won’t be done until August. Instead of having to be back in September they will be home until October. I can’t wait to tell Mike. We will be so happy to have them home. The tent will fit perfectly in the back yard…I’m sure they won’t mind. {G} It has been good to remember how quickly the girls grew up….I certainly MUST not grow weary in doing good…the rewards are so amazing. I’ve come full circle and am rambling…so I’ll close off and go hug my little Houdini.

De'Etta, I'd probably chop onions up really fine, mince some garlic. What else is in the dry onion soup mix? It's mostly seasonings. So see if you can duplicate those seasonings. Can you use broth? Vegetable or beef would be yummy over top of the beef. You can thicken with flour or cornstarch if you want gravy, or shred the roast into the juices and have shredded beef sandwhiches, au jue (or however you spell that LOL).

I'm so glad the girls will ge home for a long visit. That will be good for all of you. Zander will be happy :)

Thanks for posting this tonight. I've been camping out and I must move on. I am ashamed of my thoughts lately. Horrible thoughts that I need to cast down and not dwell on. You're a blessing to me, De'Etta.

A good pot roast recipe that I came across is pretty simple.

Brown the roast, put in crockpot, sprinkle italian seasoning on it (oregano, basil, garlic),then top with diced dried tomatoes and chopped onions, then pour 1 can beef stock and maybe 1 cup water over it all. Cook on low 6-8 hours. This turned out very yummy and very juicy. Not sure if it's FG friendly or not...

On another note, I know what you mean about the "weariness". I often find myself in that camp and have to force myself back out. God has really been working on this part of my heart for a good 6 months now and I'm doing much, much better. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I'm glad your girls will be able to have a good long visit with you all. I know you all miss them terribly...

I'm sorry to hear that you've been having a weary time. Yippee about the girls!

I use finely chopped onion and a little vegetable broth for flavoring a lot of the time. I did spot something which might work for you in my co-op catalog. I haven't actually tried it (but may, good price for convenience!) I don't think we can add links to comments so I will send it seprate, it is at fantasticfoods dot com. They have both an onion soup and dip mix and an onion and mushroom one, amongst other things. I'm pretty sure Hain does this type of stuff too but I don't see it in the catalog. It could be there just under a weird category, last month I found a gravy I needed in the pasta and pizzas category!

As for the "natural" marshmellow fluff, which is Ricemellow by Suzanne's brand, It is very yummy, I don't use it for rice crispy treats though I use vegansweets brand marshmallows. I do not know if they would be suitable for Zander or not. I will send you that link too and the ingredients so you will know right off if there is something there he can't have. You may just want to check some of the online vegan shops because often times they are catering to not only vegans but also folks who are not vegan but are trying to avoid certain ingredients. Of course they do have a cerytain amount of healthy to not- so- healthy junk food too!

I ALWAYS forget the google thing - and it's great....I have a whole page of recipes to check out. I don't want to use the bullion cubes (often have the other things we are avoiding in them) but I could use broth - or even just knowing seasonings to add will work....

Jen, that roast sounds good.
