Bob, The Sandcastle or Summer Play Challenge
Quote of the Day: If a man wants to kiss his mom, HE CAN! (Ahhhhh)

I should have warned y'all that this week is our PLAY challenge week. We've spent two weeks organizing and working and I realized that the summer was passing us by.

Yesterday, I did lunch with a friend and then had planned to go to the pool, but the day got away from us.

Today:

Bright and early (the ONLY time to do the park in the summertime around here) we met Deja and children at a local park. We were really happy that Jared chose to play today with us instead of mowing lawns! Yippee!

The boys (not sure how I missed Zander and Everson)

The girls

"Bob" the Sandcastle....

...and the Architects of Bob

Arielle and Emma

The adventure of the children having the old point and shoot digital is that THEY can surprise mom with pictures.

De'Etta and Deja

Ah - here's a better view! Deja is a good sport to go out in the sun 3 weeks from her due date...or is it two weeks???? Hmmm...this is almost enough to make me learn how to use that blur feature Kristine uses....how come we can't look as adorable as our daughters???????

When the sun got HOT; we parted ways. Deja to the really big Super Walmart and the children and I? Home to lunch. I ran Jared and Jamin to the bank AGAIN while the youngers were eating lunch. We had tried yesterday to start accounts for them. Today we discovered that Jared cannot have an account - they didn't realize he was only 13. He also can't have a CD. Jamin CAN have an account - he's 16 - but he needs more ID. The 3rd time's the charm....we'll try then.

After lunch we headed to the pool out at the lake. Remember all the time I spent trying to find a MODEST suit for this gal? If she'd quit growing, it would've worked. I need to go shopping again! Or maybe just live with this for the rest of the summer. LOL

Stacia learned a new trick that she was very proud of. She figured how to hold herself and tread water so that she could float in the pool WITHOUT any help, thank you very much! ::snort::

Note the blob at the bottom right corner of this photo - he's moving in for the kill

Lest you think we are always a loving and harmonious family - check out these candid photos - that is NOT her hand at the back of her head....and she went UNDER as soon as I clicked this....

And who are these two names squabbling young 'uns?

It WAS all in fun!

Jamin spent the afternoon at the library researching the fantasy market, writer's agents etc. I picked him up and we went to get Mike. The three of us grabbed dinner and chatted about writer's conferences and agents and getting published...and whatever else entered our minds. Then we went and hitched up our pop up for the last time. We brought it home and it will be heading off downt he road to ID next week. LOL

Great pictures! I decided that we didn't play enough in July and as soon as we are home from the week at the lake (we're there now), we're going to play lots in Aug.

But.....day #2 of vacation Allen gets the pox. Day #3, Jordan gets the pox. Isaac obviously wasn't exposed to the chicken pox the same day as the other two, so we'll have round #2 in a week and a half or so. So much for playing in Aug. ::snort::

I'm pretty sure the kids were exposed while volunteering at VBS :) I'm glad they volunteered, but I feel sad for them that they are sick on vacation.

Sounds like a great day! It's been pretty hot here too.

I know that at our credit union, you can open an account at age 13. Maybe you should look around?

I know what you mean about those girls growing all the time! Doesn't it seem like they all grow during the summer? I think all my kids have grown at least 2 inches this summer.lol

Your photos make me think of holidays in the sun.

We are having sun this week for the first time all summer. After 3 months of torrential rain...

Sis:

Have enjoyed the last few days reading about all you are doing.

Tomorrow it is to be 92 at least here. A good day to work inside.

Working on the garage now. Dad is helping some but it is real good to have him sitting out there to tell me what he still wants etc.

Sewing Will's pants and hopt to have them all done by tomorrow night.

love/prayers

Have you looked into USAA accounts? All of my children have an account with me on it as well. They hand over their cash, I keep that and then do an online transfer of the amount from my account to theirs....

Oh Kelly, I'll have to jump over to your blog and catch up. Poor guys.

DeEtta @ Courageous Joy said...

Thanks Lisa, Nicholas, and Renne for your suggestions.

He didn't want a custodial account - but that is all that is available until he turns 16... patriot act. He has a savings account now and that will work just fine.

I get $10 for referring Jamin for an account....we're trying to talk Cy into switching so Jamin can get $10 for referring him. ::snort::

Nicholas,

Your comment still makes me smile. I may have to post the comment on the front page as it is buried in the blog. I told Mike and Krista that you COMMENTED on the blog so you wouldn't care if I shared your comment. LOL

Dorothy - it's been unseasonably "cool" here this summer. Only in TX would 90* be considered cool. I've loved it....nice enough to swim, cool enough not to suffer heat exhaustion from a walk to the mail box. LOL

DeEtta @ Courageous Joy said...

Mom - will be calling today. I'm perplexed as to the comment about Will's pants. LOL

You won't believe it, but yesterday it was only in the mid 90's for most of the day and the kids and I all commented on how much cooler the air felt. It's been OVER 100 for the past 2-3 weeks now... sometimes even hitting 108-110! UGH! It's been unseasonably HOT here for a very long time.. and that was in July.... ugh... can't wait to see what August brings.

De'Etta, I've not been blogging. I didn't want to blog that we were away for 8 days LOL.....Guess I just let ya'll know though, eh?

Sis:

Will wears out the knees of his jeans real fast. They don't have a sewing machine and no one sews over there. So I tear up the old pants, cut out patches and fix the holes etc. His knees like the extra padding. :):)

I have had 9 pair for over a year. I got so busy with Dad that I just did not have a chance to spend the time on jeans. Actually I like doing this kind of stuff because then I can stay awake when watching TV. :)

Anyway Mom's just often keep doing for their kids.

Great job on your Summer Play Challenge.

We have been spending a lot of time at home, playing in the pool. Nothing too exciting, but enjoying the summer.

The summer is going all too quickly. Brian is going TDY again soon and the kids and I are going to do a modified school schedule starting next week.

DeEtta @ Courageous Joy said...

Nicholas,

Praying you find the perfect job....

Cindy,

Strange wheather...I've been watching it out your way.

DeEtta @ Courageous Joy said...

LOL Kelly - guess you let the cat out of the bag. LOL

DeEtta @ Courageous Joy said...

Debbie - we need to do "modified school" too.....I am working on ordering things so we can begin FULL force either the last week of August or the first in September....we shall see....

Praying for Bri's TDY's....

Mike is set to deploy again in May - at least we have LOTS of notice these days. LOL

D ~ if you haven't solved the problem of the kids having bank (checking)accounts, check with USAA. Both of my boys have checking accounts with debit cards and checks, as well as savings accounts. Hubby and I are on the accounts as well ~ at least one parent has to be on the account ~ but I LOVE that the boys have their own debit cards. They've made our lives SO much easier! :)

Blessings,
Trish

"Bob" the Sandcastle? ROFLOL!!!

Yep, gotta love that blur feature!

I bought Holly (12.5) a suit in JANUARY as we were supposed to go up to Steamboat Springs and I knew she'd be hot tubbing. I wasn't thrilled with the choice, but you can imagine that the selection was limited. Our trip was cancelled due to the snow.

Flash forward to last month, and she says the suit "doesn't fit." Turns out that she's not comfortable with how much it shows. So I certainly can't complain about buying another . . . except that I think she'll only wear it for a few days as we travel next week. But she'll be wearing a big tshirt over the whole thing, and I think that will work for her. I was pleased that she's concerned about this too.

Kristine,
I sure understand what you mean about modest/suits/and girls who "outgrow" things before they wear them! LOL
