ARGH.....

I put in an order today for a years' worth of grain from Wheat Montana....Prairie Gold, Bronze Chief, 7 grain, soft white, oats.....and tonight? The Whisper Mill exploded! Jamin turned it on and the motor has seized up - it was blowing smoke out the top of it.....I bought it used....not even sure where you would take something like this to get it repaired.

I really NEED a mill.....I mean I don't buy any flour, baking mixes, pancake mixes...now what???? Where do I look for another one? Should I buy new with a warranty or take a chance on another used one? This one lasted 7 years....and was purchased at over 50% off.....

Anyone looked lately? Where are the best deals? I don't WANT to buy a new one but I honestly NEED one.....

Totally un-related, since I buy my bread at the store, but I called earlier, give me a ring, I will be up for a bit. Thanks.

I am sorry your mill stopped working. I don't know the first thing about mills so I can't help you in that department! I hope you find one quick.

Deleted - thanks for the info. Yes, the upgrades on the nutrimill make it my first choice....but I'd like to see if this one can be fixed. I'm guessing to have it fixed will be timely and costly and it may be best to buy a new one.....but I just spent the cost of a new mill on an annual order of grain. ARGH. Again.

Ummm, my mill 'exploded' once. Actually, it had grain and corn stuck in the hopper, but I didn't know that. After I was sufficiently devestated, Ian came home and took the casing off to look at the motor. He pulled the grain bits out, reset the switch and it worked. Although ever since it's had an acrid smell when it runs. (It's been running over a year since that happened.) The company that warrantied the whisper mill is out of business, so you'd just have to get an appliance repairman to look at it, if that doesn't work. I know the feeling. Ian busted the plastic on my mixer (also made by the whisper mill company). It can't be repaired, and we're just hoping it will keep working till Ian has a 'real' job!

Hey DeEtta,
Thanks for visiting my blog! Suggestion: Nutrimill! The grains don't get stuck in the hopper and you can turn it off. Another bonus is that the hopper holds equivielent to one batch (5 loaves) of bread (about 15 c). I got mine off of ebay from a rep. HTH

Yeah, I planned to buy a nutrimill when this one dies.....but it's been a great mill....worked for 8 years and cost me $70 - worth the price.

Now I'm stuck trying to make the grain decision. I can buy 50# of grain for $11 if I order now....but I need to think in terms of a year....and a year of grain is the cost of a new mill.....but that is really cheap for grain.....

Josiah is going to take it apart and we'll see what we find....maybe we can make it work like Becky did....and my dehydrator is held together with glue at this point....so it will need to be replaced eventually too (but it was the cheap Walmart kind). LOL At least the Bosch is working fine! LOL
