Storm Sirens...

Lived her two years and have never had them do THIS during a storm.....though they test them on the 1st of every month at noon.

Anyway - I'm supposed to be grabbing the children and heading up to chapel...but they are sounding sirens and saying grapefruit size hail and 70 mph winds at 5:30....right when I need to be driving. We shall see.

Meanwhile, I really don't know what they expect you to do when the sirens blow. I suppose I should check and see if it has significance beyond warning you that a "nasty storm" is on its way.

when our sirens go off it means a tornado has been spotted and get to shelter.

Storm has blown over and it was a cool thing to watch. LOL

The NOAA said that the sirens were sounded due to large hail and high winds....I'd never heard of sounding the siren for that and wasn't really sure what it meant...because we get a lot of storms like this lately....I guess if you hear it you should go home. LOL

The sirens go off for high winds (70mph I think), and if a tornado has been spotted. Never heard of it going off for hail. What the sirens MEAN, De'Etta, is that you are SUPPOSED to take shelter in your closet or bathroom, or wherever. What WE do is pack up kiddos in the hallway, and Doug watches the tv for news ;-) When the hail comes...we stay clear of the windows LOL.

Yep what Deja said! I think living most of my life in the South and knowing what to do, we go to the basement, and the kids wear football helmets and we are under a table. In AL, they sound the warnings, not only if we are under a Tornado warning, BUT if we were under a tornado watch and a Severe Thunderstorm warning. Do you have a weather radio? That might be something to have, especially in the south.....

I agree with the weather radio. It is so nice to get an actual spoken warning about what is coming your way and where! It often goes off before the sirens.
