Photobucket Science Input

I'm the mom who routinely explodes the eggs we're trying to boil for science experiments.

We are using Apologia Zoology 2 - swimming animals (see post below).

Each module has several experiments. We'll do notebook pages. Here are some lapbooks made to go along with the text. Arielle does not like Lapbooks. The text is above Zander and Nolan much of the time.....but I narrate it to them. They LOVE this series and WANT to do it.

I'm wondering if I should add in the lapbook for them or if you all think it would be overkill. Has anyone done these lapbooks?

We are also doing Hands On History kits and TOG hands on activities for science.

We got the lapbook for the flying creatures book, but by the time we got the lapbook, Gabe had grown weary of the Apologia. He loves the format of Apologia, but gets bored with doing the same thing all year. I should probably work with 2-3 books at one time! LOL

Anyway, the lapbooks are very full and have a lot in them, but we never finished it. I think it would be a nice hand-on addition if you did it as you went along.

As a side-note, Bessie also did not like lapbooks until she was older. She did the Thanksgiving one a couple years ago and loved it. I wish they had more out there for older children.

Thanks for the input, Debbie. I'm so unsure what to do. I think I'll talk it over with the boys....the thing is we need a lapbook with lots of drawing because otherwise with the young ones I'LL be doing all the writing to fit in the little books. LOL

I love narration and dictation but do not use it nearly as often as I would like. We do some lapbook stuff but more hands on than written. At least until mine are a little older.

I think it depends on their ages and abilities. Use it as a resource if it is not working feel no guilt over stopping.

I think I would skip the lapbook for Zoo 2 and just do the fun hands on diroma that goes throughout the entire book. We are also doing Zoo 2 this year. I don't think we've had a year where you and I were doing exactly the same thing (LOL)! We're also throwing in some variety throughout the year that ties in with our history so we did 1 week of Zoo 2 getting started on our boxes and now we're going to do some Egyptian science - simple machines, levers, etc., for a month and then we'll come back to Zoo2.

Oops - responded to this one below. LOL

I am totally thinking that your schedule doesn't allow for lapbooks. It might work if your dc loved them, but otherwise, what purpose would they serve with everything else you have going on....

(And now you know MY hs theory for the year!)
