Accident

Is a picture worth a thousand words?

The roads were icy this a.m. I had to be out. I debated going. I decided if the roads were really bad Michael would have called and asked me to stay home as he's done in the past....he meant to. LOL

Two very nice Japanese gentlemen showed up to help. They had chains, shovels and ropes....but one tire was airborne.  Another passerby called the security forces on base...and they said if I could drive off, I should start up and drive off. But if I couldn't, I needed to stay put until they arrived with a translator, filled out a report and took photos.  TECHNICALLY, I couldn't drive off.....so we waited.

And talked to lots of folks American and Japanese who stopped.  It took a bit more than an hour for the Japanese police to show up. He wanted me to move and I kept trying to explain about the base security forces.  Mike showed up. Security Forces showed up. We answered lots of questions. Talked to the owner. We THINK they'll be ok, but they have 3 days to tell our insurance company if we are the proud owner of their tree and yard. LOL

Big D's is an auto and storage unit in town owned by an American who is married to a Japanese lady. He showed up. Busy day for all....the base said I was the SIXTH accident to call in from off base this a.m.  Anyway - he got the car out and we didn't have to pay to be towed. He took us to his shop - about $700 of damage.

We went then filled out the Japanese report.

We went and filled out the insurance report.

I FINALLY made it to the doc for the12 hour fasting labs which had turned in to 20 hour fasting labs.  I missed my PWOC board meeting.

We grabbed "lunch".

I came home and crashed. We ache. We're fine. The car is repairable. I didn't hit a person or serious property. The car will be back on Tuesday - I had 2 - 3 doctor appointments scheduled each day. Hmmm....

I've now had an accident in three countries....I can check this off the bucket list.

How in the world can you afford insurance? I had a fender bender in Dallas in April 2008. It's killing us on our insurance. We pay over $100 to insure Greg and I only with 2 older and paid-for vehicles. Landon can't get his license (he's 18), because we can't afford to pay insurance for that ($200 more a month even without an additional car). Gerren will be 16 in March and doesn't even have his restricted - same reason. (Of course, we've told them they could get jobs and pay for their own insurance, car, etc.) :) Ugh!

I am so glad everyone is okay. That's one reason I don't like winter, okay there is more than one reason but generally I like it until something like this happens. (can you tell I have had one cup of coffee too many?) lol

I am glad you are safe at home and, besides the aches, only the car was injured.
God is good.

Glad you're okay.
When James got hit by an elderly woman, the damage was $3500... thankfully our deductible is much less
Hope that the tree doesn't cost too much - but I imagine your insurance would cover it?

I must say a slideshow of the accident photos was interesting. ;-) I've been in my fair share as well and it's never fun. Glad no one was seriously injured.

Goodness, thankful you're all alive despite aches and pain. Praying for a smooth recovery.

Insurance - the first one was over 30 years ago - doesn't count towards our insurance. My last one in AK was 9 years ago....also off my record.

Currently we pay for insurance on stored vehicles in the states and two beaters - the cheap policies here.

As for insurance paying for repairs - no we will. If they have to pay our insurance will go through the roof.....and as for insurance paying for the tree - things are just different here. We will pay for the tree - and we hope to get off that easy....some find themselves paying for the "life time productivity of a field" when they slide into a field etc.

I think we are really blessed. The man who is repairing our car said it sounded like they were going to just let the tree slide and not make a big deal about it - and really the big tree was fine...the little one not so much...but it will grow back quickly.

30 years and 9 years is much better than it sounded on the original post! :) I thought you move every 3 years, so... We've had accidents that we've paid for ourselves as well to avoid the insurance going through the roof (as if it isn't already expensive). It just seems crazy. "We have insurance, but we don't want to use it." Ugh!

I'm so so glad you are all OK! Well, you are at LEAST one cross-cultural adventure ahead of me now! I look forward to hearing how it all goes with the yard and tree!

Linda, we DO move every 3 years - but I don't have accidents in every state - just every country. ::snort:: And the icy states. I've been fine in TX.I"ll have to read what I wrote -

Kim - I'm trying to see how many cross cultural things I can do before we move. LOL

Hmmm.....maybe when I said I was the 6th accident of the day you thought I meant it was my 6th accident? ::snort::

Who knows? I'm still wading through boxes. My mind is gone! :)

(((Oh, DeEtta))). The Smilebox show would have been lovely if the topic had been cheerier!

Praise God for keeping everyone safe.

Glad you were all ok! What a nightmare of paperwork, I'm sure.
