She's DRIVING and I'm Progressive!

I didn't blog Sunday or Monday due to our Internet outage - here is what stands out in my mind.

Zander is over his fever as of yesterday and seems to be feeling fine. Thankful this flu hits hard but it short-lived.

Arielle is really and truly driving and she's doing great. She drove to Yuba City - over the 5th street bridge, she drove in the boonies and she drove us to and from the optometrist yesterday!

Optometrist? Yes...Arielle has new contacts. *I* have a prescription for glasses.

I tried to pick some out - I just couldn't. These are to be progressives and be on my face - always. I like zany readers. I love colors and fun. As I went to buy a pair I realized......I have to wear these always....um.....

And so I am searching and asking questions:

Some are telling me bigger frames, plastic, bolder....sounds like the 80's to me.... Ugh....not so sure about this...

WHAT do you look for in glasses?

  • WHAT do you do if your fun glasses are a color that clashes with your outfit of the day? Say purple with green?
  • WHAT is in style?

As an aside....I was walking through Walmart....I had my readers on so I could read a price...and realized I would soon not have to dig them out of my bag each time I needed to read something.....It seemed natural to me to slide them to the end of my nose and practice the "progressive look thing"...you know up for far away, down for close....and I was so busy practicing I slammed right into an innocent gentleman. I apologized and told him I was practicing seeing. ::snort::

I would go with the classic black if it were me! Then you could still have a fun reader for those times when you just want to sit and read :).

Me... I do neither as I have multifocal contacts which I absolutely LOVE!

This could be me!! I just got glasses (tri-focals, no less) and I try to avoid looking over the tops. I just went with a brownish-red plastic frame, not super big, but enough to hold the lenses. I think too small lenses give me a grasshopper look! I went with the $99 economy frames. Have fun, and let Arielle help you decide what looks good on you.

Welcome to the progressive club! I've been wearing glasses forever...I had the clear plastic kind in the 80s, and since then have opted for wire frames, usually in black for a thin line around my face. Current pair is silver. You also need to consider sunglasses. I pay extra to have glasses that come with magnetic sunglasses that clip on. Much easier than always changing my glasses from regular to sunglasses. I think you should take Arielle or Mike with you...they have to look at you every day lol

Glasses are fun! I've worn them since I was 14, although I've worn contacts most of the time until this spring. The doctor told me wearing contacts full time for twenty years hasn't been good for me, so time to wear my glasses more and contacts less. Anyway... I struggle choosing frames. I want to be stylish and trendy, but those never seem to fit me right or look right. So I've thrown that desire aside. The new plastic frames just didn't work on me. Never have. I find wire frames to be more comfortable. And comfort is my number one priority. Then looking good on me. =) This time I got a set of regular and sunglasses. Last time I had frames that had the sunglasses that clipped on with a magnet. So many to choose from! Anyway, just have fun and find something you like and don't worry about fashion. That's my advice. =)

SIS: Lois and Deja are mostly right on the money! SUNGLASSES, I hate taking my ordinary glasses off so I buy (walmart) the kind of sunglasses that go over and around the side so I am protected from all directions and etc.

Goodness, don't get the pointed frames from when I was a kid. :):):)

if you get a wild pretty pair of frames and they don't match your other clothing sometime just put on a pair of cheepy ones you got over the counter that match and move them up and down as needed. NO actually Mike and your daughter can help you a lot... I prefer wire ones cuz they weigh less, match everything and etc. get what you like!!!! l/p mom t.

I buy the totally granny sunglasses that fit over your regular glasses; cost about $20 at Walmart.
This year I got Rx sunglasses since my Rx hadn't changed so I opted to do that instead of new glasses. I found on vacation, it was a pain to have to keep switching glasses. I will keep the Rx sunglasses in the car but I will use my granny over the top for vacations

Oh!!! I order mine from Coastal online (they are fabulous!). You can get Vera Bradley ones (which I have also gotten at a brick and mortar eyeglass shop). They are conservative in the front, being brown or black, but the earpiece sides are funky. I say its the best of both worlds! I almost always get compliments on them and have never felt like I was all crazy and funky for wearing them. For those of us who can't live without color, I say they are the BEST!

I love the red glasses and the gold ones.

I've had purple glasses, and white. Right now I have black plastic cat eye shaped glasses with rhinestones on the hinge. Almost remind me of my grandma's glasses when I was little.

I do not like the trend toward bigger frames. My face is way too tiny for that, and the glasses overpower me. I will look out of style with my tiny frames lol.

Go fun and funky.
